Echo News Southend United in talks with striker and chairman Ron Martin hopes to clear embargo next week

It really doesn't matter who it is, until the embargo is lifted it's just more hot air from the buffonted one. No doubt he will blame someone else for having the embargo and its not his fault. I wouldn't mind if he just came out and said he wasnt going to put any money in/ run out of money or hes just had enough. At least we would know where we stand.

So it either is Calvin Andrew or it is not Calvin Andrew. Definitely.

Cant be bother to trawl through too many years on his stats but in considering then consider:
1. He has been used as a sub a lot
2. Despite 1 he has played quite a lot.
3. He has played quite a lot LW or RW as well as CF which I guess can skew things

Notwithstanding above most recently in L1

19/20 5 starts 24 sub appearances 0 goals
18/19 16 + 26, 4 goals
17/18 31 + 6, 5 goals
16/17 34 + 9, 7 goals
15/16 17 +18 6 goals

Prolific he very definitely isn't. Capable of a few more goals than on first pass - very probably.
Seems to be fit enough to be available for most games in each of the last 5 seasons- for us a plus you would think (or rules him out..)

If it is Andrew he is mainly a big-arsed nuisance hold-up player that makes space for others to score a la MAF.

Can’t believe RM is talking about signing another striker when we have 2 signings who can’t even play due to another one of his f’ups. Before any talk of another signing RM needs to sort out the players we currently have on our books and enable them to play.

Smacks of Walter Mitty!

Hope it is Andrew - A big striker with bags of experience. Even if he doesn't score a single goal for us he will give defenders something to think about and will cause problems which will hopefully give the kids more time to play resulting in more goals. These kids must be half decent with the ball at their feet otherwise they wouldn't be professional footballers but right now, physically, it's a mismatch.

Don't really know how people think signing a big lump up top won't benefit the team. Short sighted.

Someone ‘like’ Andrew would be perfect. Big, strong, brings others into the game etc. .. however he had 3 league starts last season. Sam Hart played 4 games. Akinola hasn’t played a league game for over 2 years and no games at all this season. He does seem decent but he’s already being held up as our saviour.

People need to realise that even when the embargo gets lifted we are unlikely to see these 2 players (possibly 3) burst into life immediately and they may well be slow, rusty etc. This is going to take time, patience and a few more ins and outs to sort. We’ve got a losing mentality and it’s seeped through the entire squad. Molesley will do well to get us out of the relegation zone. That’ll be a massive achievement and we can then do the REAL rebuilding next season.

Exactly this. If he doesn’t score once but makes or influences 25 goals, he’d be a great signing. We desperately miss MAF. Was never prolific for anyone really, even us. But criminally underrated by many. His intelligence, hold up play, experience and class was a godsend at the time. What we’d do for a bit of that now.

I loved Fortuné. He was genuinely my favourite player while he was with us. His ability to keep and hold the ball took a lot of pressure of us at times when we were defending a lead or holding on for a draw. And he did an awful lot to bring other players in. He made good intelligent runs into space, too, and was always bothering defenders to try to get possession back.

Defenders must have hated playing against him.

Nice guy too.
