Echo News Southend United opt to extend contact of captain Timothee Dieng

Definitely the right decision as he can now play in a few positions and has more than proved himself over the last few months, some consistent performances this season.

Clearly rated by Campbell and filled in at CB at a time of need. I assume it’s not his midfield skills he’s been retained for. Hopefully he’s using the break to practice being a rock solid hard *** machine.

Agree, such a relief to have a football related topic to discuss at last! Good move, think Tim Dieng is an important part of Sol's set up. Would like to see Elvis signed up, and also JD.

Would have been baffled by this a couple of months ago but (aside from the match Sol tried him in midfield) he's been pretty solid for us under Sol, whether we get relegated or not he should be an asset for us.

Delighted, a centre half who can play out with the ball. Can also contribute at set pieces with 4/5 headed goals per season. Obviously within the in-crowd under SC, so nice to have positive news on the playing front for next season.

"In crowd" being code for professional, hardworking, listens and gives a toss in which case definitely.

Quite simple in my eyes - if the season DOES finish (which I doubt) he'll do okay for us in League Two. If this season is voided and we remain in League One I'd be very disappointed if Dieng is a starter, we need better to survive in this league.
