True but I guess that makes him an u23? So when do they stop being a youngster- by dint of birth certificate or number of appearances?

Chronological? Biological? Psychological?

all I think is that age group football effectively stops at u16.

U18s sees the end of most physical and psychological development.

After that it’s all about dedication and determination so unless there’s a physical reason, 4 maybe 5 years at U23s level suggests a lack of drive and focus....or possibly opportunity?

But at Southend lots of young players have broken through into a not very strong first team so I’m not sure there’s a lack of opportunity for anyone

im generalizing a little bit you get my point I’m sure
