Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United U19s vs Redbridge F.C.

Hard work out for the young blues. Think there were 6 16 year olds starting but they battled hard against a tough and more experienced opposition. Certainly not disgraced. Good to see Colin playing, made some decent saves and no chance with goals. As per usual we aren’t a cup side, let’s hope we do better Saturday

Yep I think it’s 29 years since we got past round 4 of the fa cup unlike so many other clubs at our previous level who make round 3 regularly and it pis..s me off when they get yet another high profile cash generating tie

one day one day surely ?

This, unfortunately says it all. Six 16 year olds, some possibly still at school, playing against a seasoned team of men, albeit from a lower level than us. We lost, we were likely out of our depth, we are out of the competition, and these lads will learn a huge amount from their experience. Today's another day, move on!

I know its a shame, but whilst the backdrop of ratsville is still in place, it is probably the best we could hope for.

Very tough day at the office, with another game yesterday (Wednesday)!

Only positives was that Colin got 90 minutes under his belt, and that it was a massive learning experience for them all. Football is bloody hard, isn't it?

I'm not so sure how much they would have learnt by being so thoroughly outplayed by adult opposition. If we'd have included a couple of possible senior players (especially one who has ambitions of coaching) they might have been able to help them along. Playing 90 minutes and not having a shot, on or off target, winning one corner (messed up trying to be unnecessarily clever) and winning one freekick in a dangerous position (messed up trying to be unnecessarily clever) is going to teach them what exactly? Plus sides, their effort never waned and for that they deserved their applause at the end. Colin being back is good, provided we don't have to lose a better keeper to make way for him. Good turn out of supporters too.

It would have been a useful 60 mins for players coming back but with our skeletal options for the 1st eleven, it wasn't worth risking players close being back. Believe Oli is ok to start, wes possibly, but JD had a small setback in training and it will be a couple more weeks yet at least before full trading or availability.

He’s a bit old for Pokémon, so I’m going to assume Panini.
