4-4-2 worked against Altrincham because their main threat came from the wings so it made sense to double up on their wingers. Against teams who play systems with 3 in the middle, 4-4-2 will continue to see us get horribly overrun.

I like the idea of going with it tomorrow night, but Atkinson in the middle of the park is, I'm afraid, not a viable option going forward.
Unbelievably, no less than 6 on here have voted for Atkinson to start tomorrow ! And one of them has even opted for John White !!!

That's probably more of a reflection of those fans' lack of confidence in the rest of the midfielders too.

I can't say that Dunne or Agogo have demonstrated any superior performances than Atkinson to be fair. However, they definitely are above him in my opinion. It's probably the biggest praise Dunne will get this season, which says a lot ?

You might find that the one person who really matters (and understands far more than most on here when it comes to what players bring) might be number 7 tomorrow...

Whoever he decides to put on the pitch let’s hope for great game and result..

Not disagreeing with you but one can play a system where there are players "out of position" or "square pegs in round holes" in an attempt to nullify the opposition threat .... or ....

...one can play a system that the current players fit & play to our own strengths & give the opposition problems for them to solve.

Didn't think I would see a post with the words "Atkinson" & "going forward" in the same sentence ......
It still isn't ideal. I would argue shoving our best attacking player wide on the left is still putting square pegs in round holes. Although to be fair we can't really play any system without doing that, such was the awfulness of our summer recruitment.

The team really picks itself at the moment doesnt it. And the bench is so weak ?

Would appear to be - 10 of the players getting a min of 61 out of 83 votes cast. Only the central midfielder to pair with Fergie is up for debate according to the zone.

Although 10 voters haven't picked a keeper!

I can't believe Ogogo has been out for that long with a dead leg. Looks like Atkinson again then. I can't wait.

I fancy us to take the three points, not often I've been able to say that this season!

Someone Voted for Harry Seaden .... that's arguably more worrying

When it comes to picking who starts in midfield we might stop and consider that KM and MB were both CM, and DC a winger. So I'll happily take their judgement. Of course, to some extent it will be impacted by formation.

It recent years its been a struggle to get to midweek games as I have two young daughters and the mrs works part time evenings. Tonight however will be my first one in a while as I've managed to get a sitter last minute. Little do they know that the girls wake up almost constantly, so they're in for a fun night. The mrs isn't happy!

Weather not going to be great , but I reckon we see our hard core support tonight.

I remember the mighty Wolves dropping into the old 4th Division early 90s and only pulling 4500 crowds

If we can get 4500 tonight our club has still got it's hardcore support even now been a non league club.

Southend till we die....

I will be in the Railway from 4 o'clock warming my cockles with a few cold beers round the fire with the family, looking forward to see my team play under thee lights of Roots Hall

Im hoping Lewis Gard can get some decent minutes coming off the bench , by decent i mean 30 minutes minimum, lets see if he can be the midfielder we all been hoping for .
