Pre-Match Thread Southend United v Stockport County

Tommy2holes

Life President⭐
I know its very early , but given the last few months both clubs have endured and the fact that this fixture was not a forgone conclusion of actually going ahead until the last few days i thought i would start it early.

Also the game against the hammers was a chance for most including myself to get there first glimpe of our new look team.

Picking a team and score is nearly impossible as we still dont know if the embargo is going to be lifted prior to the game nor do we know if sturrock will bring anybody else in. Infact this is possibly the hardest and strangest of pre-match threads.

I will say this i dont see us conceeding to many and maybe not scoring many either.

Im going to go for a 1-0 blues win with the goal coming from one of our wide men.

I hope to see morris in goal and bilel at the back and easton partnering grant in the centre with patto and spencer upfront coupled with a return to 4-4-2. As for the rest of the team well i guess only sturrock knows.

Yeah certainly one of the more difficult games to analyse right now but I'll just be glad to finally be in my seat come 3pm Saturday looking forward to watching our new team start the season (didn't think I'd be saying that 18 months-2 years ago), hopefully with a win. We looked solid against West Ham at the back and I think that's where Sturrock would like to get settled first. With lack of fitness and suspensions we may not see a settled first team for a while but everyone should be keen to impress from the off so I'm just looking forward to getting started.

One benefit is we arent a relegated team now and a relegation can affect a teams next season.

We are hopefully hungry to impress and that should count for something.

You have more faith in our ticketing system than I do.

I was always far more confident that we'd be putting a team (or sorts) out there, than in my season card working and me being able to take my seat at 3pm.

I doubt anyone will have there seaso's come saturday , im just hoping the royal mail dont half inch mine before it wings itw merry way to benfleet.

Right really confident after Eastbourne and West Ham,

It would be nice to get that kind of gate jack, but i just dont see it happening right now. Alot of people away on there hols or still sulking at the way the club is being run. If we start playing some good stuff and start the new stadium soon coupled with a passionate winning side then the drifters will return in greater numbers and we can expect 7-8k per game.

I reckon 6300 with 500 odd from greater manchester.

Yeh i was going for a bit of a high attendance i reckon we will get that this season though, agree probably no more than 500 chavs from up North!

Apart from wycombe oxford gillingham barnet and a promotion/relegation rival, i cant see us getting above 8k this season.

We have to realise that the fingers of a lot of people have been burnt and alot of people do not want to watch league 2 football.

Not everybody shares the passion for the club that our fellow zoners and myself feel

Very true, but one thing is that at least it will be the people that support the club through thick and think :support:

I'll be there on the start of my stag (who need Vegas or Eastern Europe.....) and I feel a bit odd in supporting what is a totally new team so I'm hoping the Roots Hall roar will reignite my passion for SUFC and football in general. If we get tonked I may take up watching Bowls.

Havnt got a clue what the score might be. could be 3 0 eitherway. The start of the most puzzling season i can ever remember.

I think people will get a big surprise this year with Patterson, I feel he is a good prospect for the season.

I'll say this now, with everything thats been said and done I havent been more excited about a season starting since I don't know when.

My team, based on the 2 friendlies I've seen (Derby and West Ham), would be a 4-4-2 of:
Morris, Clohessy, Mohsni, Prosser, Barker, Soares, Grant, Easton, Spencer (as we don't really have any other options - Herd?), Corr, Paterson. Subs: Evans, Cloughlan, Phillips, Herd, Zaaboub, Crawford, Sturrock.

I'm gonna be a party-pooper and go for a close-fought 1-1 draw.

I hardly think its a part pooper. I think it would be silly to think we're gonna walk over anyone at the moment. Most of the performance have been praised because of hard work and commitment. I think we need a decent striker.

My team providing they are all signed up of course!

Evans

Clohessy Phillips Prosser Barker

Soares Grant Easton Spencer

Corr Paterson

I'd like us to get Gill signed up and we might start with the 4-3-3/4-5-1

One thing I've found in the friendlies is we seem hard to scored against which is very pleasing, it's just a case of who's going to get them at the other end.

Last season I turned up to a game thinking we had to score at least 2 to get something out of the game, this year I'm much more confident that we'll grab a few 1-0's.

I dont think Spencer will be left wing unless its as part of a 4-3-3.
