Southend United's New Training Pitches.

I am in the same boat with tickets but still waiting for an email which gives details of where to go to.
I called the club a while ago and the receptionist had no idea what I was talking about. She is passing on my details to Rylee and hopefully he will get back to me tomorrow. If I find anything out I'll post on here

Its friday one day before the visit by now I would have thought we should have received the expected email.

Anyone got one?

I'm happy to leave the seeding and all the other technicalities to a company that specialises in sports fields and apparently has been in existence for 65 years this year.

Good Afternoon!
Thank you for booking on to see the progress being made at our new training ground, which is continuing at pace and on schedule.
The new facilities will, over time, prove a major ingredient to the club’s future & success and are the first step in the club’s relocation plans.
The tour will commence at 11.30am, so please arrive by no later than 11.20am. The attached google maps screenshot shows the location of the training ground, which runs parallel to Fossetts Way, situated just north of the road. Access to the training ground can be gained by Sutton Road. If travelling Eastbound from the A1159, take the first exit at the roundabout before Boots and Laces training ground and head northbound past Southend Fire Station as well as Southend Crematorium. Heading straight over the next roundabout, continue on Sutton Road past the set of houses, and just after the Bus Stop on the right, follow the path round to the car park. We appreciate it may be quite hard to find so please see the attached image to give you an idea of where to travel.
PLEASE NOTE: WELLINGTON BOOTS SHOULD BE WORN
We look forward to welcoming you to an exciting glimpse of Blues' future, and if you have any questions please do send across.
Best wishes,
Rylee Doe

Judging by that picture it looks like they haven't started yet.

Southend Utd cannot win, everyone was moaning about when the diggers will start digging the Fossett park, for new stadium years ago. Soon we have an phase 1, an new training ground half way to completion, everyone still moaning 🙄🫠

I guess the moaners probably want us to fail 🤷🏻‍♂️

I don't think anyone is moaning. Just sceptical which is understandable.

Moaning like queuing is a national pastime, so I’m afraid, understanding this, everyone from the government to the football club bends over backwards to make it as easy as possible..

Its a building site, are you expecting a show home style pitch with what the parking is going to look like etc. You'll see 4 pitch shaped spaces with some grass growing possibly, a big hole for drainage and then you'll probably be given a tour of where the car park will be, where the buildings will be etc
Form an orderly queue....

Murky we have another 4 years of this at least until the new stadium is complete. For what it's worth the moaning is a lot less than I remember when I was a lad many many moons ago

Well that was really interesting. There are 4 pitches being built on 2 tiers. As the ground was very uneven, a 6 metre slope from top to bottom of the land, it had to be evened out before any work could start on prepping the pitches

Pitch 1 is going to be stadium grade, the same as the pitch on the new stadium so the players can train on the same grade pitch as they will play on.
It has a 450mm depth with all new material, top layer using fibre in sand with a strong root zone. Seeding has taken place and should start to show green by xmas full drainage as clay. The sand topping means it drains easily and has an automated irrigation system can be run via smartphone
There will be a 3000 m3 underground water collection tank for rainfall that can be used to water the pitches to save on water.

Pitches 2 and 3 are slightly lower grade but still have the same irrigation system and built on new materials

Pitch 4 is built on current materials so no new soil etc was used. It will be used for academy training and will be hired out which will generate revenue. There is a possibility it may be converted to 3G at some point.

The chap leading the build on the pitches was very knowledgeable in all things soil and answered everyone's questions

Car Park and changing rooms to be built

Had a good chat with Tom who spoke about revenue streams for the new stadium. The hotel was removed from scope after the hotel chain involved backed out. There will be a 1000 seat function room that will be able to cater for any number of events. Christmas events/parties can real money spinner.

Good to meet up and have a chat with @Maldon Shrimper
