Southend United's Ryan Cresswell: We must improve at the back to end losing streak

I think some of the problem is the midfield. When Laird went off against Exeter, it was over run as huge gaping holes appeared. Laird and Tam stopped that happening. The replacements just aren't up to it. There are also too many players looking like they are treading water, after playing 2 or 3 games in a Week.

I think most of the problem is midfield.

Mkandawire and Laird joined and we flew up the table, since MKandawire left our form has been patchy at best, to lose Laird as well and we are back to where we were early season, floundering.

Also think that the defence has looked a problem since Prosser has been dropped. Im a massive fan of Phillips, but think Prosser and Cressy did well together. Couldnt undertsand why Prosser was dropped. The third goal on Saturday was a case for this argument, Phillips looked knackered and lacking pace and their guy walked round him.

I personally think that Phillips is our best centre back, but have to agree with this. Sometimes this season he has looked well off the pace.

Midfield definitely the problem, need a left winger who tracks back well and an enforcer now that Tam has gone back.

Main problem is and will always be atthe moment, finance. However, if the likes of Martin, Spicer, Fred, Benyon etc are not considered good enough then that is a lot of wages being wasted. I know that other teams have to be intrested in them as well for us to off load and possibly there lies the problem. Was dissapointed to see Donelly leave, seems strange that PS had him here twice yet hasnt actually signed him.

My early nomination for understatement of the year!
