Pre-Match Thread Southend Utd vs Accrington Stanley

What's your choice for Saturday's starting 11?

Hard to believe Jimmy W is only 32 years old, never played in his true position when at Southend, always gave his all when wearing the shirt, like many players in this or lower divisions, if their hearts matched their skills they would be world class

Be nice to see him back at The Hall

Sorry ,but trying to assess, then count up “assists” is a highly debatable and therefore pointless exercise—I could elaborate with plenty of other examples, but the player with by far and away the most “assists” at Roots Hall is Luke Plodder.

SOUTHEND United boss Chris Powell says his side are angry heading into tomorrow’s clash with Accrington Stanley at Roots Hall.

Must have been tricky for them to check all the goals/assists of players who turned 24 during the season to check whether the goals/assists were before or after their birthdays,

Even trickier trying to define an assist.

I don’t think players turning 24 in the season matters. An U23 player is an U23 all that season regardless of whether he turns 23 during it....if he turns 24 during it then he wasnt an U23 before the season started.

The assists / stats are all logged and recorded for every club and will have pre determined criteria. It’s only a case of collating all the info - I just wouldn’t want to do it myself!!

What it shows is completely arbitrary and completely subjective. However on first glance it seems that four of the top 6 in each of these divisions are also top 6 in the real divisions which maybe suggests younger fitter more mobile and hungrier players are doing well....

Be interesting to compare end of season...

If we can pick up now despite the injury list I think we would be good for at least mid-table. Played 21 games with 25 still to go, so plenty of time to silence the relegation gang.

Walker will always be remembered by myself for a 96th min equaliser away to Orient. What a goal! I had the man flu big time that day, have no idea how I got to the game. That goal made it all worth while though.

I kept a lot of newspaper cuttings from yesteryear, and one is a column by Mark Gower with the heading stating, 'Walker can be the next Eastwood.' Even top class players get it wrong.

Hopefully our players will have drunk lots of milk this week!!

/\ (Guessing you have to be of a certain age to get this one...) /\

Slipped on the stairs this morning and slid/bumped 3/4 of them down to the bottom. Jarred my spine and hip and the left leg is knackered again now. Looks like it's the radio this afternoon for me. Hurrumph!
