Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend v West Ham X1 23rd July

I am not sure I agree with the general sentiment on this thread that we all have to be positive and any negative views result in calls for bans etc. Has anyone actually broken any rules?

I disagree with a lot of the stuff that has been posted (including a lot of the negative stuff), but I think some posters have every right to be concerned about the season ahead. = Personally, it's the happy clappy, we're going to win the league, all is rosy in the garden stuff that winds me up the most.

I think people have every right to be annoyed that we've been given the run around by west ham's kids, even if it ultimately doesn't really mean much. I remember one of the worst experiences of my early Southend supporting life was being done 5-0 by them in a pre-season friendly in 1998, surrounded by hundreds of the scum in the home stands. Horrible, but they had the likes of Joe Cole and Frank Lampard on the pitch back then. Now we get dicked by their reserves. It is OK not to be OK with that.

Some very harsh views on here I have to say. West Ham kids were faster, slicker and way more skilful than our team which really shouldn’t be that much of a surprise to anyone who has watched the team for the last few years.

What I took away from the game and the Great Wakering game was we are clearly just using these as fitness exercises and trial games right now what with the use of more than 20 players in both fixtures with at least 5 trialists (from memory). Once the squad becomes more settled, a few of the expected regulars gain more fitness or return from injury then I would expect to see a more settled team in the last couple of friendlies and looking a lot more like our first team. Then I think would be a better time to judge.

I actually thought it was a fun game to watch.
A fun game to watch? any defeat for Southend is like an arrow to my heart! Friendly or not

The benefit of playing against a Prem u23 side is that it gives us opportunity to see if anyone we would need is available and willing to come out on loan? Admittedly they may want a higher league...but its possible. Never does any harm to keep in with the Premier League clubs.
That is what Sol Campbell thought in the October he took over. When January came he was somewhat disappointed that Mr Martins pockets were not as deep as he was led to believe.
Six loan signings were coming in that January Sol told us at the meet the fans meeting. It ended up being Zero! Mr Martins pockets are now only full of IOU's so I am not quite sure where the money for these Premiership loanees is going to come from.

I think it's more about the same poster with the same negative stuff being posted on every thread.

just to prove a point that the silly season of pre season should count for nothing Hartlepool got trounced on sat by a team from the nationwide north in gateshead 4 1 .The heatlepool fans were so angry they walked out long before the end .
