Your memory plays tricks, but I seem to remember in my younger days that we would thrash sides on a regular basis compared todays scraping through by a single goal, but is this true or is just my rose tinted glasses?

Below I've listed every victory by four goals or more since 1958 (apolgies for any errors or ommissions), and it certainly does prove the point, 64 in all, of which in season 1968-69 we recorded eight such results. Apart from 10-1 and 9-0 wins in the Cup, a 6-1 in the League cup, in the League we also had a 6-1, a 5-0 and three by 4-0. More four goal margins in that one season than we have seen in the last twenty years!

I feel sorry for the modern day shrimpers that missed those magical years, I know football has changed but the excitement and hype of a big win hasn't.

Of those I have seen 25 of the 64 (not good for my age but I spent 25 years in exile), understanding that many of these may have been before you were born how many have you seen?

I remember the 4-0 against Brighton in '76 really well, all scored by Peter Silvester!

Amazing (or not so when I think of some of the dross we had playing for us) that we went ten years between 93/94 and 03/04 without one. I've only seen three of these in person (there have been 14 in the time I have been supporting Southend), plus the QPR 5-0 on the telly.

Good stuff there DoDtS.

Bloody hell the last 10 years have been shocking!

The 4-0 against Newcastle is one of the best performances I've ever seen, we went top of the second division aswell even if only a for a few hours.

I also saw the 3 Aldershot games, Torquay, QPR in the CCC maybe a couple of others (Birmingham, Rochdale) but i'm not sure.

Good thread DoDts.

Good stuff Pete, I saw all those games in the goal happy season of 1968-69, and IIRC the 5-0 v Port Vale & 5-1 v Chesterfield were in consecutive home games over Easter 1972-73.

Fifty one and a half for me. The half ? The Aldershot 10-1, which I couldn't make 'til half-time.

Amazing to think there were twice as many high scoring wins in 68-69 as there have been in the last 17 years.

In the last 20 tears (Since the 5-0 home win over Aldershot in our 1990 promotion year)both times we have scored 5 in the league we have been relegated

QPR 5-0 9/2/07
Bolton 5-2 7/9/96

I only sort of remember the Rochdale 4-0 game as (IIRC) that was the same day as England won the Rugby World Cup and we'd all been in the pub since 7am! Was that Tilly's first full game in charge as well?

Yeah, it was the game after Canvey in the Cup. Tilly's first as caretaker.

I don't have much/any recollection of the Oxford 4-0 but I know I would have been there. Was that one of Freddy's first games?

I wondered why I didn't remember that game.

Good call. If we now go 4 up, I sing we want six, just to be on the safe side.

ps I think that Bournemouth game was 0-0 at half-time.
