i know nothing about all of that as i was and still am living in Australia , but i do remember coming back to Southend for a vacation in February 1987 i went to see Southend play whilst i was there and was in tears at what i saw , they played Halifax that day and lost 3-2 , the crowd would have been lucky to have reached 1000 i reckon, admittance was 5 pounds ,after the game i just walked through the change rooms etc and was appalled at what i saw, i couldnt believe the club had come down so bad and truly feared for its future. It was truly at that time in a state of disrepair .

Sounds like you've been living away for way too long - vacation to southend ?
I was at the Halifax game, pretty sure Derek Hall scored?
As regards to Vic Jobson, I met the bloke a few times and I can only speak as I find. He was a very nice man as was his wife and daughter who used to work in the club shop. I don't know all the politics surrounding him and I'm sure I'm not the only one, but we still have a league football club and that is in no small way down to Vic Jobson.

You are correct to say that VJ saved our club from possible extinction. However, I lived opposite him for a very long time and I can tell you he wasn't all that nice. His wife, as you say, was very nice, and his daughter had learning difficulties, but was nice enough. One of his sons (the eldest) was also a decent sort, but his younger son (the middle of three IIRC) was a bit of a tearaway who actually shot a friend of mine (who also lived on the same road) with an air pistol. It was only loaded with a tiny piece of chewed up paper, but he did it from pretty much point blank range, which bloody hurt him.
