Thought I'd see if anyone on here could help me as I know you're all such a clever bunch when it comes to computer problems.

Through my Dad's somewhat naive attitude, we've ended up with an absolute influx of spyware on adware on our system tonight. I've spent the last 2 hours trying to sort it to no avail. Despite constant scanning of the system using both ad-aware and spybot, which has deleted over 200 of the things, there is one bit left that I just can't get rid of, which is annoying as it's the most problematic one. I've also tried deleting the folder manually, which brings up a warning box saying that it can't be deleted as it's either write-protected or in use, despite me manually stopping the process in the task manager.

The file itself causes there to be a search box in the bottom right hand corner which pops up everytime the cursor goes towards the toolbar at the bottom of the screen, and by going to the task manager it calls it 'desktop search' and it has a globe for it's logo. There is a folder in the C:/Windows folder called 'isrvs' which contains all this crap, including a program called 'ffisearch' and 'edmond'. This is the problematic folder which contains all the stuff I need to get rid of, but as I said, it seemingly cannot be deleted. For some reason, the programs don't seem to pick it up, or if they do, it automatically recreates itself after being deleted. All of this has also completely destroyed the Google toolbar which I have, and it won't actually let me reinstall it.

As I said, this was all created by something which my Dad did, so unfortunately I don't know how it was created, or where it came from.

Can anyone help at all? I'm completely stuck, and I'm off now because I'm completely at a lost end to try and destroy this.

Cheers to anyone who can shed any light on what to do in my hour of need.

Not in this case, although thanks for the suggestion.

It turns out this piece of spyware is pretty nasty. I've spent nearly all day trying to sort it using various ways, but it can't be deleted using any kind of anti virus type software. The sooner this is gone the better.

As a word of advice, anyone who gets this on their PC, panic and panic hard.

Failing that if you are using Windows XP use the restore feature to turn your PC back to the config of about a week ago before the problem hit.

How bizarre is that!? I found the exact post on another forum earlier, and the woman in question who posted it helped me out no end. After spending my entire Sunday trying to sort it, it seemingly has now cleared although I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch just yet.

As for the restore, well it turns out that's not possible because the trojan screws it up something rotten and it won't let you 'go back in time'. It's a nasty little bugger and if I ever have to put up with sorting this again I'm going to throw myself off the QE2 bridge.

I bloody well hope that's not how it happened!

Cheers for earlier advice though.
