Stan Collymore "Lifting the Lid" Interview

Your post shows a complete lack of respect for a man who has done a magnificent job for this club over many, many years. There are several other people far better qualified than me to decide whether Ricky Duncan is a good choice for DoF - he may be, he may not be - but I felt the need to reply because he deserves to be held in much higher regard by the supporters (and I believe he is, certainly by the vast majority who can recognise the players he’s developed and the excellent results he’s achieved with the Academy teams).

I honestly hope Stan is given an official role, not only did he impress me on the pitch as a kid (and boy did he impress me!) he’s also really impressed me by how passionately he’s spoken about the club and - more importantly - how intelligently he speaks on all matters football from top to bottom. So much sense and in our current predicament Stan is IMHO someone we really do need our club to be associated with in some role (along with a CEO of course). Would I be happy if Ron offered Stan a DoF role? Yes, absolutely. But we have to trust that the right decisions will be made. Whether that’s Stan, Ricky Duncan or A. N. Other we need to get behind them regardless because coming together as a fan base and as a club will be the only way to turn our fortunes around and get back to where we should be.
I have heard from a few people inside the game that Duncan is not as good as many think. Personally I hope they are wrong but I was amazed at how many have said that to me

Frankly, think it's amazing that any post on here which dares to imply (however obliquily) that Stan may not have too much influence on here in future generates so much heat.

That will be me then.

I just say it how I see it. I've always spoke my mind my friend as you know.

Hey Tangledupinblue

Hope you're well.

Nice to see Hadenoughblue has your back and I'm worthy of one of your 30,000 posts!

I have influence only of my own life and affairs which are healthy and happy so I know you'll be happy with that as I'm sure you must have cheered me on once upon a time!

I honestly find it astounding that any former player offering support, tangible help and energy could ever be seen as anything other than a positive influence, but I guess many have been used to having plenty to complain about in recent times.

Like Hadenoughblue, when I'm in the area my invite for a coffee and a natter is open to you to, maybe I could breathe some positivity into your day and I could alay any anxieties you have.

If you think I'm at the point in my life where I'm looking to influence a National League football club for anything other than a desire to see your club back in the league ( as opposed to travel the world as a sports broadcaster and spend precious time with a 90 year old Mom and family) then I'm all ears!

Today I received messages and emails from 6 Premier League clubs, 4 Championship, 6 League one, our old friend Barry Fry, 2 football recruitment specialists all for free, along with raising £7k for the Trust disadvantaged kids fund in order to give your club every advantage next season.

Add that to the £3.4m received for me 28 years ago, being a big part of staving off relegation and in every interview with every broadcaster over 20 years telling them how happy I was at Roots Hall, I'm not sure what more I can do to persuade you that I'm genuine! ?

Like Hadenoughblue, if you don't like me for whatever reason, that's fine. Plenty of players and managers and owners at Villa that I've really not liked. But when they prove beyond reasonable doubt that they have my club's best interest at heart, that'll do me.

I'm here because I want to be not because I have to be.

Stay safe and well, coffee on me on the seafront soon ?

Up for a pint down the crown in Rayleigh Stan ? You can tell me some Saša Ćurčić and Fernando Nelson stories if you have any. ?

Hey Tangledupinblue

when I'm in the area my invite for a coffee and a natter is open to you

Apologies for butting in Stan, but as Tangledupinblue lives in Spain, doubt that will happen!.
However i live in Leigh on Sea, & next time your in town, your quite welcome to visit my humble domain for coffee & chocolate biscuit!.
Not your fault, but the linesman at the 5th rd FA cup game at Sheff Weds in 93, cost me £11.
11 of us caught the 8.43am train out of St Pancras for Sheffield that morning. We dealt a pack of cards, for who'd score our 1st goal, everyone put a £ in the pot!.
I picked no. 10 ( you ), & when you scored that early goal, i thought i was quids in!. Alas the linesman ruined my financial bonus!.

Thanks for all ur help and kindness to our team.We have had such a lousy and steady decline that perhaps a few fans are sceptical because we just rarely see anything good happening at R.H...Few seem to have mentioned it but we have been in a similar hole when Tilly was sacked and all appeared in turmoil; thank goodness for Dear Old Paul Sturrock that time. This current scenario hurts and it was entirely avoidable. Poor decision across the whole piece.

Phil Brown is certainly one of the better people we have employed in my time and the fans will get behind him.
Guardiola he is not but given the mess we currently find ourself in we are lucky to have him back. IMO...We all know he will stand no shirking from any player.

I can see you are genuine and could easily find other things to do in your life.It would be some progress if other players did the same and gave something back.

I saw every game u played and tho we knew it would happen was sad when u left but was thrilled as your career progressed.

Anyway it was always fun when you'd occasionally pop up on here and am glad youre now a more regular contributor..
We all got a buzz when you took the time and care to mention SUFC in interviews and it gave us a tiny bit of kudos.

Pro clubs do seem to have a poor record, certainly we do, in utilising former players' skills in and around the game and we dont seem to care much in SE Essex either sadly...With your passion and profile the club would be foolish not to embrace any help on offer.

Thanks pal and more power to you.

Hi Stan ive been a supporter of SUFC since i saw my first match back in 1953 , sadly being an exile, i moved to Australia back in 1966 I dont get to see my club live. Back in 61 / 62 i was part of what was then the academy called Southend United Colts, Playing in the local youth league and also a member of the youth team that played in the first ever youth international tournament in Southend ,with youth teams from Holland ,Germany ,plus Arsenal and West Ham .Not a day passes when i dont come online ( thank god for internet ) to read posts concerning my club,im now in the Philippines having been stranded here due to the covid and am almost 75 years off age . My point being Stan that i would be so ashamed of my club and RM should you not be offered a meaningful role withing the club, I m positive reading all your posts that a D of F position would suit you very much ,i know you could work with and help without interferring other departments including PB with advice and knowledge. Also the many contacts you have will in many ways help build the bridges and trust ,that to me is the most important thing our club needs to do at this time without trust you have nothing.Thank you Stan for trying to breath life back into my club ,God Bless you and your family .

When was the last time you watched a Southend game live ? I love the post and the fact
Your in yours 70s sharing this story . If I had the money I would happily fly
You over here to watch a game. Not
Many of you 70+ fans on this forum.

Last game i saw was back in february /March 1987 at an almost empty ROOTS HALL we lost 3-2 i think if my memory serves me correct it was against HALIFAX but not sure .

I have brothers still live in Southend that watch when they can,i always pray to god that someday i will get back there to see my club play again before my time comes.I know and truly believe in my heart that Southend will rise again and become a very good Championship or better club ,we do need this new stadium that is a must to help this plus as Stan has been telling us for the club to be run in a proper and professional way by people who know there roles and jobs ,everyone one from the backroom staff through to the players and boot cleaners need to work together for this to happen.

Can someone post Stans email address as I cant PM him.

That absolutely shouldn’t happen. Not because it’s you rigsby. That would be a huge betrayal of trust for those that have it. He would be bombarded with all manner of tripe. If you need to speak to him I’m sure he will reach out. ?
Yeah I have that and his mobile number that’s only because I asked him during our meeting. Only gave it to the trust after stan confirmed it was ok. I think respecting the fact somebody gives you their number is important and should only be passed around if the person is ok with that. Call me old school on that. However @rigsby you have my number so give me a call and I will pass anything on if you wish.

I wasn't thinking of his personal email

I thought some sort of contact email had already been made public?
