Final of the Stanley Cup is taking place in the NHL between rough and tumblers Philadelphia Flyers and the creative Chicago Blackhawks. The first game of the series final was played last night and Chicago won 6-5.

This Stanley Cup Play-offs have had some big shocks with Montreal knocking out the favourites, Washington Capitals and the holders Pittsburgh Penguins in two tight series. Montreal are the 8th seed so it came as a surprise to see them get into the Eastern Conference Final, only to lose against Philadelphia.

Chicago knocked out the much fancied San Jose sharks in the Western Conference. The Phoenix Coyotes along with Colorado Avalanche, Los Angeles Kings and the Nashville were knocked out in the first round. Detroit faced San Jose but lost to set up a San Jose-Chicago Western Conference Final which Chicago won in a clean sweep.

I'm a fan of Pittsburgh Penguins myself. Their last season in the Mellon Arena came to an end with a 4-3 series loss to the Montreal Canadiens.

Indeed it did. I really thought the Habs would take their 25th cup this year after eliminating hockey's two biggest stars in the previous rounds but they looked completely shattered against Philly and the inspired Michael Leighton. Still a joyful play-offs though - it was great to see Ovie and the Kid pouting after being dumped out in their own barns.

It was a shame seeing Pittsburgh go out but we didn't deserve any more than what we got. Chicago one game away from winning it, prefer them over the Flyers.
