Stephen Humphrys - Our player, but for how long?

It is an interesting debate as to who plays and what formation. Without another specialist winger signing or Barratt being declared fit and ready I suspect Mr Bond is considering playing 3 at the top.

I suspect he is looking at 3 at the moment but that would be with two players playing off the side of Humphrys.....the two being from :-

Macca
Goodship
Robinson
Hutchinson
Kelman

I envisaged, with a fit Cox, a 3 of Theo working runs etc either side of the traditional No 9 role of Hump, with Cox playing a traditional 10, slightly back and linking with the midfield more.
I haven't seen Goodship but he reads more as a No9, as is Hopper (and Acquila?) with Kelman being a 10.
Macca (Barratt) could be a sub/replacement swap with/for Theo.
At present, certainly in the coming months, with no new injuries and players coming back Mr Bond has options a plenty for a reasonable attacking side.

think Humphrys is a great player with strength, ability but also desire. Long may it continue.

40/1 for top goalscorer in league one, might be worth an each way shout

Kelman a 10 ?? where did that come from?
He isn't a big lad, seems two footed, has showed he can drop back and can make a pass rather than predominately being a recipient. He has an explosive quality, Fredesque. Partner for a big No 9 makes him a 10 for me!

I agree he’ll be back in the side but all the above formations involve a CF and either two wide men or two deeper ‘10’ like players ??

It’ll be more likely if all three play that cox would drop deeper in either a 3-5-2 or a 4-4-2 diamond with cox at the top of it.

I don’t see Hopper or Humphrys being anything other than out and out CFs

Both Hopper and Humphrys liked to work the left channel last season. Not sure if that was Powell or them looking for space.

I think McLaughlin is a key figure too.

That poor kid doesn’t stand a chance with the lack of service he will get, only the likes of Humphrey’s or cox will score in this atrocious team, Goodship will require service and that’s not something this midfield will be able to provide

great comment - you must be one of the hard core moaners that makes Roots Hall an awful place for young footballers ....

I’m shocked. From what I’ve seen he is the most one footed player I’ve seen....and his pass selection and execution is pretty poor.

He has pace and he shoots on sight. They are his assets.

I’ve said before but the biggest difference I’ve seen in Cat 1 academy products and anything below is being bi-lateral. That’s the ability to move and change direction both ways as well as using both feet to strike a ball and manipulate the ball.....this is what allows players to maintain possession in tight areas and move the ball at speed.

I can see him playing wider but being brutally honest I see him being more Robinson than Cox.

We're a small club that sells its best players. If he has a great season, enjoy it and if the bids come in, be thankful that we have progressed a young man's career and the club has staved off extinction for a little bit longer.

I would rather he was playing brilliantly and attracting attention, that playing crap and being sent on loan to Braintree.

save your money pal. The team that finishes 20-24 top goalscorers dont trouble the the league top scorers lists.

So what your saying is a really good Cat 1 player could shoot from inside his own half and wrong foot the keeper by shaping the ball......Shame we never get to see such talent.

That’s literally your best ever post ???

LOL think it was a hit and hope mate.

I think Hopper is a good player too. If either bang a load of goals in and we can sell them for a few quid I see that as a good thing and I certainly dont worry about it. What worries me is crap players coming in that we cant then get off the wage bill.

He's a strong intelligent player and can run at pace with the ball at his feet. I saw enough before he even got his face smashed in to know he will go on to bigger things. Whether it's with us or not is yet to be seen

If he stays fit. He scores 20+ in the league.

He will undoubtedly attract attention

With the extremely disappointing news about Cox, we need to be careful with SH. Bond won't want to stop the goal scoring form and SH is clearly looking to make up for the time robbed from him earlier this year.....After that goal who can blame him.

However any sort of injury in the 2 main friendlies would be a huge set back for us.

Take that goal away, which is difficult to do, but what did he actually contribute to the side last season?

He had plenty of other chances when coming off the bench, and more often then not, fluffed his lines. I wouldn’t be bothered if the rumoured link to Reading, was true and he went to be honest. A fully fit Hopper, Cox & Humphrys, with Robinson & Goodship waiting in the wings, Kelman barely gets a look in if we are being completely honest.
