With all the new manager talk and either hope of a turnaround or being resigned to relegation I’ve not seen anything on SH beyond his mask fitting planned for yesterday and return to training. Do we think (or anyone know) if he can return on Saturday as if he returns like he started for us it could make the difference?

I’d be shocked if a return to training after a 3/4 week break meant he’d be playing that week!

He had broken bones in his face!!!

He had his nose reset a week or two AFTER the incident which would’ve meant re breaking it which means that’s only been healing for two weeks maximum!!!

So even ignoring the general fitness issue of being off training for four weeks and ignoring the psychological issue of being confident to challenge aerially you still have the physical issue of actual bones healing!!!

It'll be down to what his maxilo-facial specialist advises with regards to the broken bones, I'd wager that if he's allowed to train then he's allowed to play, there's just as much chance of him re-injuring his face in both.

as for the general fitness it's at the point in the season where a few weeks out isn't the end of the world, he might only play 45 minutes but his presence in the team will give everyone a boost

I might depend more on what his “return to training” actually means....I’d wager it’s jogging round the pitch and completely non contact ?‍♂️

And I can assure you there is a world of difference between playing and training....surely you’ve seen enough evidence of that so far ?

Played in the 23s today I expect him to start Saturday if declared fit enough

Oh ffs.

He did not play for the 23s today. That was Dan Humphrey’s who is a 19 yr old full back who’s about 5’4”!!!!

Quite.

An easy way to tell them apart is that Stephen Humphrys doesn't have an "e" in his surname where Dan HumphrEys does.

But as people still haven't learnt how to differentiate between club legend Adam BarrEtt and Sam BarrAtt or between another Southend legend Paul Clark and Peter ClarkE I don't hold out much hope.

A mutual friend of Romford Blues and I is not even up to discerning minor things like that. When we came into the ground on Saturday he was waxing lyrical about the young striker "Askwith" who was starting! :Headbang:

Even more embarrassing is the official SUFC still has his (Acquah) name spelt incorrectly

the issue isn't likely to be the nose, but more the broken cheekbone and eyesocket which he's had set and perhaps grafted/plated. That'll need to be protected by the mask to ensure he can play, because a broken cheekbone can occasionally pierce the eyeball which is obviously really serious.
