We look back at Steve Waggott's time at the Sky Blues in his own words...

Following plans being released for a brand new stadium, Waggot said: "There are several ingredients for creating a sustainable and successful club and owning your own ground is one of the main ingredients.

"A football club needs to squeeze every penny it possibly can out of its stadium both on match-days and non-match days in order to be able to invest on the pitch."

After the club's Academy was awarded Category Two status: "It's a statement of intent from the club and its owners to say that we want to develop players here and turn them into first team stars of the future.

"As a club, we could not afford to stand still when it comes to youth development and gaining Category Two status proves we are moving forward."

Joe Royle with Steve Waggott
On becoming chief executive: “I will continue to work closely with Steven Pressley and the coaching staff at Ryton to keep building the football model that we believe will bring success back to Coventry City Football Club.

“Given the prominence and critical importance of Financial Fair Play, I will also work with the commercial staff in exploring every way we can to drive club revenues in order to help get every penny we possibly can to Steven Pressley to strengthen the most important aspect of the club which is the playing side.”

After agreeing the return to the Ricoh Arena: We are delighted to get this deal done and I am sure every supporter of Coventry City will be thrilled with this news.

“We are under no illusion what a difficult 12 months it has been for the supporters and that was uppermost in our thinking as we worked to get this deal done."

Speaking today about deciding to leave the club: "I have been living away from home for that period and feel it is now right to step away and allow the club to continue to progress.

"We sit a point off the top of the table, there is stability in the managerial and coaching situation and the club is back in its home city - all things I wanted to assist in achieving."

He's also been at Gillingham and Charlton, in fact, he preceded Steve Kavanagh at Charlton. Don't remember Steve ever speaking badly about him.

The guy may have worked at Coventry and Charlton previously but Southend is a massive step up in terms of scale. We are a big club who regularly compete for honours in the LDV vans trophy and I just hope he doesn't get overwhelmed here. Good luck Steve!
