Tomorrow we visit a team we've never lost to but we have a referee who we have never got a point with - one of those records will have to go!

Man in charge tomorrow is 34-year old, Geoff Eltringham from Sunderland. He is in his sixth season as a League referee and will be refereeing just his third Southend match.

The first one was our 2-1 away defeat at Carlisle towards the beginning of the 2009/10 season when he cautioned Macca, Grant and Barnard.

Then the following season he presided over our 1-0 defeat at Crewe, just one yellow for them.

We have seen nothing of him since that match four years ago, which is probably just as well given his propensity for red cards. He has shown 46 at a rate of one every just under 4 games - which is far more than double the average !

He is an ex-Sunderland season ticket holder, chairman of the Sunderland Referees' Association and works in the timber trade and he is one of the shorter officials.

His yellow card count is below average, surprisingly given his record of red cards, with this season's stats 66 yellows and 7 reds from 25 games. He hasn't shown a red for 8 matches. He sent off two Notts County players at home to Colchester earlier this season and Colchester still managed to lose. Many of his matches are Championship appointments and he did last week's 3-4 match between Bolton and Watford. A repeat of that scoreline would be a treat for the travelling fans.

Assisting will be Craig Hicks from Sutton and Ian Rathbone from the whimsically named Semilong in Northamptonshire. John O'Brien from London will be 4th official.

So, an official with potentially 'short-man syndrome', who relishes a red card, officiating tomorrow, on a dodgy pitch, against feisty opponents.....that's my bet for the weekend sorted!
