30! Well done all. I think that means Frank's in there.
Not wishing to be controversial, and playing devil's advocate...a lot of the above relates to things he did away from the club. It clearly shows he was evidently a good man, a man of dignity and a man who gave time for other causes no doubt for low reward other than the satisfaction of helping out.
However, if this is limited to a legends of Southend top 12, surely there are others who have contributed more to the club?
As announcer would he not be a latter day Jeff Allen (was that the name of the announcer of a few years ago?). AS secretary of the supporters club, are the Trust committee members, or those trying to push the Blue Voice through not his equals?
As I say, he was no doubt a great individual, but if this is acknowledging the top twelve most significant people in Southend's histroy I find it hard to justify his inclusion from what Ive read. I would have thought it better to see other more obvious entries first and then revisit this one.
The supporters club was far more important to the club in its day, than the trust or BV are now (no offence)
They bought the ground for RH for starters, for the Trust and BV to compare to the early 50's supporters club they would have to raise a large chunk of Rons 80m !! And have a brass band at the same time........
I was reffering though to the endevour and time these people put in or are willing to put in. I know a few people who work for the club in various capacities and they seem to love their work and no doubt it beats a run of the mill job.
Im sure if the Blue Voice or the Trust were able to buy they ground they would.
Has number 11 not read Napsters post or the whole thread of other posts ?
Does he not understand plain language ?
If Frank Gill say was Master of Ceremonies at RH for circa 20 years he "played" on average 35 home games on the mike per season = about 700 appearances, free, except for the price of his entry ticket to the ground.
Making the hal time teas, all manner of time on Hospital Radio, you simply don't get committed volunteers of his ilk these days.
Please consider review the whole thread.
Whether Ian's contribution helped there or not, I'm just glad we got this absolute gent in - at least I'm assuming we have. Frank Gill was Mr Southend before anyone else was really.
I think you will find Mr Trigg was there first.
