Just about to get first flat with the missus, and put deposit down etc. Getting all the references and so on together and one of the conditions is that we have Tenant Liability Insurance.

Just wondered if anyone could shed any light on this, tried google and not had great joy! Is it likely to be part of our general home insruance (don't have any at the moment but will be getting some in the next two weeks)

Any recommendations or just use a comparison site?

Any help, gratefully recieved!

Can't say I've ever come across Tenant Liability Insurance before. According to google, it's included in many contents insurance packages. It's probably easiest just to check that the general home insurance covers it.

From various websites :
Tenant's liability insurance covers the homeowner for damage to the structure of their property by a person who is renting it out.

It is recommended that you have this kind of cover as damage to the structure of the building itself may end up costing more than the deposit given to you by the tenants.

So my guess would be that the Landlord has advised his buildings insurer that he is renting the property out, his insurers have either given him two choices of coverage , one with TL and one without (cheaper I would imagine andMy guess is he has chosen to pass the cost onto his tenant) or they have warrantied the policy so that the tenant has to have the Insurance.

As YB said , Most contents insurance policies will include tenant's liability insurance , however as a large number of tenants don't have Contents insurance Landlords tend to stipulate it to ensure they are covered
