Didnt get the job I went for today. Was based on a points scoring system for the interview. Lesson I took went really well, no problems at all, but I got beat on the interview (even though we had the same points) by a primary teacher who claimed to not want to teach Year 10 or 11 and she's got no training in secondary school, but has 8 more years experience than me in teaching.

So all I can say is boo-urns!

P.S, if anyone knows of a ICT vacancy in the Southend area, please let me know!

:( Unfairly judged, well done anyway!

Pardon? :(
The way they have judged it is awful! Does a teacher need to teach a class or do they need to do an interview :dim:. Especially if the other teacher has no secondary exprience, it's a huge difference

They did say that they will keep me on file, cos if there was 2 vacancies at the same time, they'd give me the job too. But there is someone else who's thinking of leaving, so they said they'd give me a bell and offer me the job if she does go.

But does that make me feel any better? Makes me feel second best, more like.

It's not your fault, so no need to apoligise.

Or was you one of the people in the interview with me?!
No I got the job!!! Not really but it does sound like an awful way of judging it, a history lesson using computers was a bit of a strange lesson to give you to teach as well! :madman:

Rough luck Hils - as long as you know you did ok. The fact they seem to have given you positive feedback should make you feel at least satisfied that your planned lesson (which was what in the end?) was spot on.

There's nothing you can do about experience, sounds to me like they've made the choice without really considering the huge difference in teaching seniors and primary. Don't be down hearted, this next half term there'll be loads of jobs coming up all over the place. In the meantime, do a bit of research and find out which schools in Southend are ICT specialist ones and drop them your CV.

I got them to work in pairs to produce a newspaper report about the Battle of Hastings. They worked silently and did what they were asked. It was an all girl class as well, because in Year 7, they dont mix boys and girls.

Sorry to hear that but keep on keeping on, I'm sure you'll get there in the end.

Considering applying for a PGCE at the moment, not sure if I can cope with the pesky kids though.

You shouldnt think of it as being second best.. i remember i was in a similar situation with my first job, got knocked back, they kept me on file and i got a call a few weeks later and i turned out to be something much better. Now look at me, living in New York and spending everyone elses hard earned tax money...

Unlucky mate. There has been a few instances at my school where the 'second best' who they found a job for turned out the better teacher in the end...

Does sound a strange call on their part though, refusing/not being keen to do anything usually works against you and he/she would have been a fair sight more expensive to employ you! Keep your fingers crossed you get a call back (and do take it!) and good luck with the hunt. Get a bit of confidence from it and save the lesson if not for another interview possibly your first year even as a 'filler' lesson ;)

Still looking into it but have signed up on the GTTR website, either Uni of Essex or Anglia Ruskin so I can live at home.

As a potential Maths teacher I'm hoping there'll still be places.

I did my PGCE at Anglia Ruskin. You'll be based at Chelms and you'll be doing some daft hours.

E.g we were given 2 1/2 days to do a 20 min presentation. We did it in a couple of hours and had the rest of the time off lol

Cheers for all the comments, guys. I just found it a bit odd - maybe I would turn out to be the most expensive out the both of us maybe. Plus, why can Primary teachers not have to train as Secondary ones, but I would have to if I went down a tier, so to speak?

I'm definately going to keep looking. :)

As for the primary/secondary thing Hils, from what I'm lead to believe, that can depend on what access route they take in. I know my son's been told he couldn't apply to secondary schools with the qualification he'll (hopefully) take out of college.
