Ever since Southend United submitted plans to Southend Borough Council for a new stadium at Fossetts Farm, there has been speculation about the existence of a covenant on the land at Roots Hall.

Despite having a copy of the Title deeds of Roots Hall and the original Trust Deed from 1950 - we have never been convinced that such a covenant exists.

Consequently - The Shrimpers Trust have been in discussions about the matter with a high-ranking Council official, and we understand there is a contractual obligation in place that ensures Roots Hall does not close until the new stadium is ready to open.

This latest news confirms there is a requirement that no demolition work will start on Roots Hall until our football club has a new home.

We will update supporters with any further details that become available; however, we wanted to share the little vital information we have been provided as soon as possible.

As ever, we encourage contact from the club's most important asset - the fans - and we are happy to be approached with any queries or concerns you may have.

Covenants are great; historically they were not challenged but over the last few decades the courts have been over turning them.

Hopefully any new ground will be an improvement and not an half built Mickey mouse Lego ground that's built on the cheap.

A half built, Mickey Mouse lego ground built on the cheap is exactly what it will be, which satisfies that covenant. Ground built. Kicked out of Roots Hall. Property deal done. Thank you and goodbye. Nightmare.
