So after three weeks of intense battling, here we are at the final.

Fatshrimp's Steven Speilberg takes on Brettie Angell's Martin Scorsese for the ultimate prize.....

So will it be ET over Raging Bull?
Indiana Jones over Goodfellas?
Jaws over Taxi Driver....

There can only be one, so let the Shrimperzoner's decide!

Well alas I think the 3 people who I'd have preferred to win (the Coens, Scott & Kubrick) are already all out.

So I'm entirely undecided. I think Spielberg is hugely over-rated, but he has given us Indiana Jones, Jaws, Minority Report and Duel. And I think Scorsese is a bit of a one trick pony, but has given us Taxi Driver, Raging Bull & Goodfellas.

Tough...

Like Seany my favoured choices (Kubrick, Burton, Coens) are out, but Scorcese would be the next on my own personal list. Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino, Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, Bringing Out The Dead all superb who combined cinematic artistry with bums on seats.

That and I just don't like Spielberg much.

Two worthy finalists here. I would expect the 'cool' vote (or snobs vote) to go to Scorcese, and he has made some cracking films. However for making films with a pure enjoyment factor, fantasy films appealing to all ages as well as some damn spectacular movies that stay in the memory, Id have to go with Spielberg.

Scorcese is very good but Spielberg is The Master.

Can't disagree that Spielberg has made some crackers in his time, but recently? I won't even watch the latest Indy - however that could be Lucas' interference.

However Marty has kept up the quality with films like The Aviator and The Departed.

I like him as a director but I dont understand why he has to stick the words "yes yes yes" at the end of every title.

Its almost like he is trying to bring himself off just using the title.

Got to be Steve-o.

His films appeal to the masses. I agree he's not one for the purists, but he's responsible for some of the biggest films in history**.

Speilberg all the way!

** I haven't checked this out so I might be wrong, but you know what I mean.

Mmmm. E.T. is one of the best films of all time. Hook is one of the most crap. When Spielberg is good he's very, very good but when he's bad....
I love 'The Aviator'. Scorsese recognises Di Caprio for the great actor he really is.
Ultimately, though, who is the great cinema magician?
Spielberg.

SEE!!!!! Look how happy this guy is!

"I'm going to demote Hurt and Winstone to theatrically OTT regional stereotypes, cut embarrassingly between Ford and a stuntman who is blatantly 25 years old and dangle a moldy, AIDS ridden carrot of 'future' Indy films in front of you in the form of Shia-te Le Beouf gurning little frat-boy face. Basically cinema goers, I've just taken your childhood memories, raped them mercilessly with an Oscar I use to clean my bog with while Lucas is round your house nicking the valuables from your gran's wardrobe...."

In short: VOTE SCORSESE.

Vote Scorcese or we send the boys round.

[At this point I feel it's worth pointing out Cricko's list of Spielberg films includes producer & executive producer credits, when this is only meant to be about films directed.]
