In the brief pause between the World Cup and the start of the new season I thought it me worth a quick review of the last eventful twelve months and gave praise again to the winners. It was a year ago that the Prediction League was split into four sessions each one of about 13 matches.

First session (August to October)
Dick Bates Protege won the League with 87 points from thenobster 80 points and the Eternal Optimist with 77 points but for many the most important was to finish in the top half of table and gain admission to the first division. In the Southend PL (just Southend scores and scorers thenobster was the winner from, davewebbsbrain and D.O.L.L. The Cup Final ended witha win for Ldnfatso 7-5 over Tinks. In the Roots Hall Home Competition, the West stand came out as winners thanks to a high score of 13 by Dick Bates Protege.

Second session (October to December)
Escudo took the honours in both the League and Cup. Escudo became the first winner of the PL first division from Goughy and davewebbsbrain. Fatgrandad won the second division championship and was promoted with Lucky Luca and Gt Yarmouth Shrimper, while Roxy was also promoted via the play-offs. Escudo was taken to a replay in the cup before beating Cyril Sneer 6-3 in the replay. Wickford Shrimper was the winner of the Southend PL from fatgrandad and Roxy. In the RH Home competition the SouthStands edged it over the North Bank on point difference.

Third Session (December to February)
Beaten Cup finalist Cyril Sneer stormed back to win the main PL from thenobster and Shrimper2thecore. KingSHRIMPER won the second division title and was automatically promoted with b1ueb0y and OldBlueLady while Kitch was promoted via the play-offs. Cyril Sneer failed to win the double losing the cup final in dramatic style 5-0 to thenobster. Kitch won the Southend PL from Ricey, Its Only A Game and Shrimper2thecore. The South Stands retained the RH HOME on point difference from the West Stands.

Fourth Session (February to May)
Yogi Bear up the Cagire won the main PL from DoDtS and Dannypav, while Se London Shrimper won the second Division from Danshrimper and Wickfordshrimper, and MK Shrimper winning through the play-offs. In the cup MGH grabbed a close victory over Nestudas. In the Southend PL Escudo came out on top from Kitch and Agent Lomas. The East Stand were the winners of the RH HOME for the first time. Sadly we had lost Ldnfatso during the previous session, a good friend and a good bloke and the Ldnfatso Biggest loser trophy was introduced as a one-off competition with Thundersly Blue having the dubious honour of winner.

PLAY-OFFS (May)
For the first time we had a Play-off competition and the winner was B1ueb0y from enfieldblue and the Big Shrimp.

WORLD CUP (June to July)
This was really fast and furious with so many games so close together but in a dramatic finish Manor15 was the winner from DoDtS (with 7 minutes spare) with SupaBlues third.

Well that was the Shrimperzone Prediction League certainly it is not dull. We’ve had lots of new predictors during the play-offs and World Cup and hopefully they will take part in the coming campaign. New Predictors will start in the second division but don’t be put off by that with 16 promotion places up for grabs in the four sessions, and everybody is on level pegging in the Cup and Southend PL. And the highest scorers get to represent their chosen stands in the RH Home competition.

To anyone thinking about taking part (and that includes guests) its easy, its uncontroversial you can’t make a fool of yourself (because we’ll all bad predictors) Why not have a go?
