A new football book on football scouts - some interesting titbits on Southend:

Dean Austin is featured heavily as a scout and he is interviewed throughout the book. He mentions that he didn't think Lee Badbuy would make a good manager (he played with him and also coached him at Southend).
There's a good piece on the Fish House as a meeting place for scouts
They describe a match at Roots Hall where Jack Butland has a mare - and say he'll always be remembered for that game.
They also talk about Lee Hills when he was with us
There's also a piece on when Paul Sturrock tried to sell Kane Ferdinand, and had to do so because of an impending tax bill. The club he first offered to (Palace) didn't want him.

Reviewed on here (in the What are you reading thread) by me and someone else (sorry forgot his name) some months ago.

Title is The Nowhere Men,IIRC.

I remember that Butland mare, and I haven't rated him ever since, probably unfairly - I just can't forget about it.

What was the view on Lee Hills? I thought he looked the part and am surprised he's non league.

Freddy Eastwood's first game back of his second spell.

I've just ordered the book, thanks for the heads up.
