Three weeks ago, The Football League Paper featured our 4th Division promotion-winning squad of 1989-90 in their Where Are They Now? feature. The article was based on Bernie Friend's book Red Card Roy, with quotes from the book from Roy, and then the article went on to report where all the people featured in the accompanying pre-season squad photograph are now. I'm sure most of this is well known by Zoners already, but this is what they had to say about the squad:

Steve Tilson: He has managed Southend United, Lincoln City and now Canvey Island. He has also coached at Dagenham and Redbridge, and runs a soccer school.

Martin Lawrence: He is believed to be still living in his native Rochford near Southend.

Gary Bennett: He ran the Village Inn in Old Skelmersdale but is now working in development for an industrial printing company.

Mario Walsh: He is scouting for Reading's academy, is a coach for Sportsworks UK and for a youth side in the Swindon area.

David Crown: After qualifying as an accountant he worked for a firm of chartered accountants and now runs his own management services company in Essex.

Matt Jones: He has worked as a schoolteacher in Essex and has also managed Billericay Town.

Justin Edinburgh: He has managed Billericay, Fisher Athletic, Grays Athletic, Rushden & Diamonds and is now Newport County boss. He also owns two hair salons.

Paul Clark: After managing Southend, working on the coaching staff at Colchester, Leyton Orient and Cambridge, he has also run a tiling business, a driving school and worked on local radio.

David Martin: He has worked as a project manager for a dry line company and is now a London cab driver.

Roy McDonough: After managing Colchester, Chelmsford and Heybridge Swifts, and working in sales, he now lives in Spain and is in the property business.

Paul Sansome: He has been running Alpine Tool Hire in Kent's Medway since hanging up his boots.

Paul Newell: He is an associate director of Balgores Property Services in Hornchurch, Essex.

Spencer Prior: He is now based in Sydney, Australia after running his own business and coaching.

Iain O'Connell: He has managed Chelmsford City, Great Wakering Rovers and Margate, and is director of football at Catholic United Minors.

Kevin Lock: He was assistant manager to David Webb at Brentford, then bought the Prince of Wales pub in Mountnessing near Shenfield. He is now a court usher in Chelmsford.

Nicky Smith: Now a policeman and has managed AFC Sudbury, the England Police team and Saffron Walden Town.

Peter Butler: He moved to Australia in 2001 and since then has held a number of coaching posts in the Far East. He is currently in charge of Malaysian side PBDKT T-Team.

Paul Roberts: He did the Knowledge like former Millwall teammate Dave Martin and is now working as a black cab driver in London.

David Webb: He had spells as Yeovil Town chief executive and Southend assistant manager. Now has property interests splitting his time between the New Forest and Portugal.

Paul Brush: A former youth team coach and manager at Leyton Orient, he served Southend and Lincoln City as assistant manager and is now working as a coach.

Martin Ling: He has managed Leyton Orient, Cambridge United twice and, since June 2011, Torquay United.

Jason Cook: Earning a living as an osteopath in Essex.
