The worsening situation in Ukraine

The other problem is that who will be next in about 10 years. First it was Crimea, now Ukraine. Belarus has almost given in and surrendered without a shot being fired. Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania will probably be next. Listening to the Latvian President, he thinks it will be them next, if Putin isn't stopped.
maybe Moldova?

Putin won't be around in 10 years. Ben Wallace will make sure of that.

I'm having building work done at the moment and one of the builder is Polish. He was extremely worried about the situation not only as Putin is a nutter but who might be next. Not easy for him with his neighbours being Ukraine (soon to be the Russian Federation of Ukraine), Belarus with its even pottier president and Kaliningrad the Russian territory.
Just how this all will all effect that other threat to peace China and it's pursuit of Taiwan which will lead to instability in the South China sea. Very worrying times.

Will he wait 10 years? Also, could this become counter-productive? Could some countries that see themselves in the firing line (i.e. next on Putin's hit list) make a beeline for NATO to secure themselves?

Who know. Only time will tell...or hopefully not.

And there's the rub. NATO cannot and will not allow a fellow member to be invaded.

I thought exactly the same and it was question in a discord group I am in for private investors. Another member had the answer. I can't imagine that Russia would be naive enough to not anticipate the sanctions though and would have thought they would have Roll Royce parts stock piled.
RR will be getting caught up in the civilian airline sell off as well

The problem Ukraine have is that if they fight back, they will be bombed to bits and lose so many army personnel and hundreds of thousands more civilians. If they take to the sky and engage, they will shoot down a few Russian planes, but in the end will lose all of their aircraft plus the pilots. That's if they haven't been destroyed on the ground already.

I'm enjoying all the wringing of hands by the neocons and neolibs over here in the US as the puppet government they installed after a coup is rightfully being deposed. It's an overused phrase, but the chickens are really coming home to roost. Interesting that Tsar Vlad didn't choose to do this when he supposedly had a puppet in the White House. Maybe, and I'm just spitballing here, that whole story was absolute bollocks?
This thread has nothing to do with Trump, please don't try and make it so. Thanks.

As a UK resident in Latvia about 200km from the Russian border this is obviously concerning. The issues are far more complex than the narrative the British media is peddling. Yes, the invasion, if indeed it is that on a full scale, is the culmination of years of simmering resentment that the post cold war agreements by the 'West' have been abandoned and Russia is encircled by NATO bases. That, coupled with the discrimination suffered by ethnic Russians in the former Soviet Union republics has led to a sense of frustration and grievances that can be easily inflamed. There is also the spectre of the Nazi past in these countries. In Ukraine the notorious Bandera fascist militia have been incorporated into the armed forces and there is plenty of fascist representation in politics. The memory of 20 million Russian war dead is often evoked. In Latvia, the largest political party is Saskana, which is broadly speaking, social democratic but largely of Russian ethnicity. Despite having the highest number of seats in parliament, it is never likely to gain power as no other party will co-operate with it and is always kept out of office. All these factors are a recipe for opportunistic trouble making by both sides and exploitable by Putin and Biden for their own dubious ends. There are no easy answers and in the absence of good will or statemanship on both sides the future looks bleak and will have disastrous effects way beyond Ukraine's borders.

Caught between a rock and a hard place. Fight back and your going to get crushed, roll over and you may well come out the other side after Putin has got what he wants.

I personally think he wants the whole of Ukraine, not just the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. He still remembers Russia from the USSR days and can invade Ukraine as they are not part of NATO and thus wouldn't enact article 5 (an attack on one is an attack on all)

Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are members of NATO so it will be interesting to see what he does with those countries if anything at all.

And when it comes to surrender and armiistace negotiations France can step forward and take the lead on account of their experiences and expertise in early towel throwing.

A Vichy Eastern Ukraine to be the buffer state the Vlad is after.

Q. What part of Ukraine has the uranium and other rich mineral deposits?

Is there much room available at The Palace Hotel or Le Pas De Calais for the next exodus towards the Land of Hope and Glory?

Incredibly sad and worrying times. Spent time this afternoon on the phone to a Ukrainian colleague who said goodbye to her son on a video call who is preparing to learn to fight and defend his Ukrainian home. He is just a young lad with no combat experience. Equally her sick mother who she has tried to visit several times over the last two years due to covid restrictions, she may never see again.

Equally been on the phone to the inlaws in Poland who are equally worried about the situation and we are drawing up contingency plans to somehow turn our two bed home into a home for 7-8 family members should they feel threatened enough to flee Poland. These are extremely worrying times and life may change very quickly for many. Heartbroken for innocent broken families.

At least we have Kevs army to give us some joy!!

The image of young kiddies being crammed into an air raid shelter in one of their cities is just to much to stomach, the man is a beast.

Something doesn't seem right. If what we're told, Russian troops are flooding into the Ukraine, how is that happening?

The Ukraine have greater numbers.
