This coming Friday the 1st of October the Zone will be off-line for a period of time, we are hoping that it will only be during the Friday evening/early hours of Saturday morning.

The reason for this is that we are changing our server provider and joining a new one in Chicago.

http://coresite.com/Chicago-Data-Center.php

The whole process will take a fair few hours as all the Zone data has to be transferred over and then the DNS propagation can take up to 24hours ( not that I expect it will)

The new server is much faster than the old one and is state of the art tech wise, so will improve the Zone dramatically.

For those who wish to know.....

This is what we have at the moment.

Intel(R) Xeon(R)CPU E5420 @ 2.50GHz -dual core
50GB disk space
1536MB (1.5GB) Guaranteed RAM
Plesk control panel

This is what we will have after the change over.

Intel Dual Xeon E5506 (2.13GHZ 4MB Cache) -Quad core!
100GB RAID-10 disk space
1536MB (1.5GB) Guaranteed RAM
1TB of monthly data transfer
cPanel/WHM/Virtuozzo 4 (included)
LiteSpeed Web Server (included)
4 IP addresses (included; more optional)
Fantastico and RVSkin (included)

The Dual Xeon alone is a power house. Brand new to the market.
Litespeed web server is unbelievable. It is as much as 9 times faster then a pure Apache server(which we have now).

You can read more here: http://www.litespeedtech.com/

So you are all fully informed now, please bear with us whilst the move takes place.

Good to see the Zone is getting closer to me!

Dual Xeon is the server equivalent to the Dual core i5 type processor, much more powerful with Quad core...great stuff.

Closer to me... Though I live in the desert and everything is far away... 1000ks minimum... nice international techno touch, for all the international shrimpers out there; I think our numbers are growing... We live in a small world... Hopefully not off for too long, as I am fairly addicted to the going ons that happen here... Well done, as it sounds great

Cricko, Correct me if i'm wrong but i get the feeling that you haven't got the foggiest what any of the above means!

What operating system are you running?

BBC B, 32K:

Forgive me if you've already considered this, but under the Data Protection Act you need to ensure there is "adequate protection" when personal data is processed outside of the EEA. Happy to chat through if Cricko or whoever else involved with this move wants to contact me about this.

Thanks, dept MTS has this covered and will be in touch.

I was just about to say that.

To be honest the last thing I need at the moment is to be renditioned to Guantanamo Bay in an orange boiler suit.

MC, if it's of any consolation, SZ are in negotiations with the US Justice Department to offer a purple boiler suit as an alternative to the orange, to show your support for ending Polio.

In the meantime, I can only suggest you find alternative means to the PM system to arrange and finance international terrorism.

Is this to mean that we won't be finding out what pornography OBL downloads after all?

I wouldn't worry MC. With some of the Daily Mail style, anti-Islamic, Republican ranting we have on here we've probably got a couple of boys running the place.
