On Talksport this afternoon (Hawksbee and Jacobs) , Rio Ferdinand was on saying (amongst other things) that he was the best Table Tennis player in football and challenged anyone to take him on. During the interview, Paul Hawksbee mentioned that Tilly was a County standard player, and Rio pretty much poo-pooed the idea saying he'd have to be international to beat him.

This prompted the Talksport hosts to announce that they were trying to contact Tilly to set the match up.

Incidentally, if anyone was listening to the show, they play a fun game called the "James Alexander Gordon Experience" and I was chosen as the contestant. Sadly I missed out on a tiebreak.

If Scriv is reading - do you think Tilly will be up for it?

If they do play each other Tilly will win beacuse Ferdinand will casually stroll his way through the match with minimal amount of effort

There are so many jokes here that could be thrown in regarding Rio playing. Could also say it could be wrose. Could play Campbell or robben which will led to several jokes as well but I leave that all to ORm.

I will support the idea 100% as long as any money raised goes to charity or if every point Tily wins off Rio he coughs up 10% of his weekly wage for the club. that will tide us over for a while!

I was driving back from Hatfield listening to the show when Rio came on and mentioned his table tennis prowess, and stated that nobody in football could beat him. It was me who contacted the show and put Tilly's name forward.

So, if he gets beat its my fault.

Given the alternative sporting contest on this thread.  I thought it was a shame on Saturday that we couldn't have Mitchell Cole, Jamal Campbells-Soup & Nathan Jones on the pitch at the same time.  They could have had the inaugural British Stepover Championship, with the winner going onto meet Christiano Ronaldo in the World Final.  A sort of Riverdance on grass.

On his Saturday performance Jevons would have also automatically progressed to a World Final against the aforementioned Ronaldo, in the Falling Over at the Merest Breath of Wind Category, although Arjen Robben could be a late entrant for this.  Riverdive on grass?

it would be a great bit of pre-match entertainment for southend v man u friendly in july!!!

played in the centre circle, although as we have no big screens at the ground so we couldn't see what would be going on.

nice bit of telly for football focus.

He'd definitely beat Henman. And Murray would probably puke and collapse several times before going down to Tilly in a five-set thriller.

Have you ever tried to play table tennis outdoors? Even the slightest breeze and the ball moves all over the place. No, if Tilly is going whip Rio's arse then we don't want Rio blaming the wind.

on the Official site now, Tilly excepts the challenge
oooh I can picure it now the CS Crew in running battles with the Red Army on the london road by Runneymead Sports Hall

Brilliant! A bit of publicity for the club as well. Talksport will like this I'm sure.
