I see we've had a bit of a poor run of late which has led to a vocal minority coming out of the woodwork and calling for the gaffer's head.

I dug this up from the archives earlier. Just goes to show how far we've come as a club under Tilly and that maybe his biggest 'mistake' was raising expectations too quickly.

Football League Division 3 - Updated 15/11/2003 (after Steve Wignall's last game in charge, a week before Steve Tilson was put in 'temporary' charge)

21 Macclesfield 18 -7 17
22 Darlington 18 -13 16

By the way, do any of the people who think we'd be better off without Tilly have any ideas for replacements who they think would do a better job that we could realistically attract?

Yeah but look at Hull. They're in the Premiership now.

So Tilly's had 6 years to get us there and blown it.

Get rid of him and get Glen Roeder I say...

Hmm, not gonna try figuring out what that is lol!

No, i definately want Tilly to stay. Yeah there has been mistakes but I wonder how many of the mistakes were down to him (3 month loan deals etc). Unfortunately he's the man that will bear the brunt of fans criticism but he was more than happy to receive their adulation when things were going well.

Tilly has done a fantastic job here and i can't see anyone coming in doing a better job than he done over the past 5 years

**Edit - you fixed the table!!!

tilly stay
definitely not roeder he's been failure everywhere west ham newcastle norwich

WHAT???

Roeder. You mean the same "manager" who managed to get West Ham relegated with Cole, Ferdinand, Carrick, Defoe, Johnson, James etc in the team and who would not pick Di Canio because they did not get along?

If you really think that Roeder (since sacked by Newcastle and Norwich) is the answer then you really do not know anything about football.

Pathetic that you would even suggest somebody like that as a replacement for Tilly.

Also interesting to note that seven of those teams are no longer in the football league.

Point well made MS - Tilly is definitely the right guy to get us out of League 2.

Now can we move on to something different ?

11 of them teams are now in a higher division , with 7 teams still at a higher position than us , so although we have done well , so have over half of them teams .

Glen Roeder are you mad !!
If Tilson has to go which i hope he dont, i say try and get Shaun Goater or Spencer Prior as a manager !!

Ok cool you want Tilly to I respect that but what more can he do? You not think he has done everything he could and got us as fair as he can, I have no idea who could replace him or who we could get but I do think a little shake up in the ranks could see a slight improvement in the side, so the good old saying in with the new out with the old

"I see we've had a bit of a poor run of late which has led to a vocal minority coming out of the woodwork and calling for the gaffer's head."

The vocal minority will soon become the majority if results and performances do not improve!!

In answer to your question I for one believe that RM and the board should consider replacing Tilson as I have peviously stated in a previous post:

"Tilson has been a superb Manager for us however look at the facts he has unfortuanately gone stale it happens to 99% of Managers.

There are many Managers that could do a great job for us. There are some Managers that on paper we may consider worse however may end up being the next Alex Ferguson (example look at Phil Brown at Hull, he was shocking at Derby - the majority of Hull fans did not want him - now look at them). There are also many Managers that have excellent records but may no be suited to Southend. The point that I am trying to make is that whoever may get appointed will be a gamble but a gamble I personally believe the club should seriously consider!"

Tilson has been good for us, but I think it may be time for a change.
In his defense, how many times do you ask a manager to build a side, to my reckoning he has had to do this 4 times THIS SEASON!!
Perhaps we now need some new ideas but I would be more in favour if we kept Tilson but outed Brush!
If they both did go, I would like to see John Still of the daggers come in.

Agree totally I have always been a huge fan of Tilly however I do think he has gone stale and after so many years he has lost the buzz of being the manager of Southend United.I am fed up every week of hearing from him how unlucky we are and how we should of beaten the teams we have played.
Personally a change for Tilly would do him good and a maybe a clean start would be good for him and good for us as Southend United.

Wow. Just wow :D
