It's utterly ridiculous,

Some charities demand donations whilst paying out crazy salaries to the bigwigs and others,it must stop!

Save the children pay 6 million per year on just one of their leased premises...6 bloody million, how many people have chucked a couple of quid into buckets thinking they are helping kids, when their cash is being used to pay rent.

Bosses regularly make 100k plus..why?

Miliband trousers 400k for his charity gig...8 grand per week to front the charity..the world is nuts.

Personally I don't give money for the reasons above.

Plenty do though.

I would imagine little old ladies giving a quid which they probably cannot afford thinking it will help the needy, yet their quid goes elsewhere.

Would those old girls still give if they knew.

But you don't give, ever. So why is it a problem to you?

Now you have brought up the subject again, Donald Trump's 'charitable trust' has come in for a real kicking. Short version of the story is that though he set it up with his own money, for many years since he has just acted as a middle man - getting large donations in then passing them on to certain causes then acting as if the donations came from him. The other trick was to host events for the charities at his hotels and the hotels making large sums of money from it. Interesting scam from the soon to be president.

you are talking about David not Ed I assume?

Charities do skim vast amounts off for the fat cat bosses and the charities are very greedy.
My Aunt died and left everything (over £500,000) to charity, barring £1000 to each of her sisters. Will was created in the 80's so the £1000 should have gone up with inflation but it didn't. Anyhow, my mum wanted a couple of keepsakes from my aunts house to remember her sister and the charity would only let her have them if they could value them and take the value out of the £1000, even though they had £500,000 Now that's real greed for you

Listen mrsblue lets not claim all charities are a scam. Whilst I agree with you about many of the running costs, there are certainly some that are worth supporting.

If you are a 'Charity begins at home' sort of guy then why not give to the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund or (Ben Fund)) as its known. Just like the police or army our spineless politicians refuse to help injured Firefighters. Our "don't mention my charity work" luvvies tend to pick something more politically correct when they want some cheap publicity. So your support will be greatly received.

Firefighters won't be charging for their work and certainly won't have their hands in the till. The admin side is extremely well run and the medical staff provide an excellent service which actually saves money for the NHS.

To give you an example a friend of mine was horrifically burned whilst trying to rescue a woman trapped in a flat. The fire flashed over and the woman died. He dived through a window otherwise he would be dead.

He was a real good looking lad and an ex Marine who used to go out on a long runs to relax. Laying in his hospital bed, he knew his career was over and life was never going to be the same. Then the doctors tell him you won't be able to go out in sunlight with an exposed skin for around 7 years. Without the charity, its fair to say, he would be dead by now

The BEN fund has 3 rehab centres in Penrith, Devon and Sussex. It allows injured an recovering Firefighters to spend time working with medical teams and in the gym or pool with the Physio. But the real life saver is the psychological and emotional boost you get when spending time with lots of other injured people. There are truly some amazing stories when you visit these places

So come mrs its Christmas. Please have a heart, I'm sure you can afford £10. Because out there we have plenty of broken service men and women and its only the likes of you and me that can save them.

An elderly chap near me recently was asked to do a survey in town...he put his landline and address and subsequently was bombarded with begging crap from an array of charities..we tried the call barring service which failed...we then persuaded him to have his landline disconnected and we purchased him a cheap PAYG.....result is,he no longer suffers unwanted phone calls and is now rather content with his new found texting skills.

My neighbour is a retired firefighter...he bailed out on medical grounds(saw too many bad things),I regularly see him so will ask about this charity.

Good job he never beame leader of the Labour party then, wasn't it?

He will eventually !

Then he will be a full blown socialist spouting rubbish about his concerns for the needy whilst bring loaded himself.

Tony Blair is worth an estimated 30 million....not bad Tone.

I confidently predict David Miliband will never, ever be elected leader of the Labour party.

I do agree with mrsblue on this, I think it's a disgrace that people at the top - or front - of these charities are paid such ridiculously large "salaries". For the same reason, I also refuse to give to any of the charities that have a celebrity endorsed advert telling me to "donate x amount of money" - far better, in my view, to donate to the Trussell Trust, for example or local appeals or charities.

You can stick Children in Need and it's associated 'luvvieness' where the sun don't shine. Same goes for all the other big headline charities that bombard our TV's etc with tragic adds fr this that and the other. The ONLY one I ever give to now is H4H and that's the way it will stay.

Now, local charities where you know where the money is actually going. (if you can be bothered to look and find out, which you should if your giving them some of your hard earned) That is where it starts for me and my household.
