Timothee Dieng

Didn’t take long for Caldwell to suss him out.
He won the Exeter Fans Player of the Year award for his performances last season. He was one of only three players to leave Southend, after we were relegated from League Two, and sign for a League club in the off-season.

Based on what seems to be very little empirical evidence, you're placing a lot of faith in Caldwell having indeed found out Dieng to be a fraud. What mugs Gillingham are too, to pay a rumoured 6 figure sum to meet his release clause!

Matt Taylor, who signed Tim Dieng for Exeter, certainly proved he has a good eye for a player. No wonder Rotherham appointed Taylor as their manager. It will be interesting to see if Neil Harris can get the best out of Dieng at Gillingham. Judging by comments from some Gillingham fans Harris may not have long to turn things around...

At St James Park this season, I’ve watched the Grecians ,under Taylor with Dieng, win handsomely and draw luckily, under Caldwell without Dieng, and the contrast was remarkable.
Dieng’s quite an unusual talent and it will indeed be interesting to see how he gets on when the Gills appoint a better manager.

He’s a talent but he rarely bothers.

Indeed. The fact that he did well last season proves the point. Many of us said he has it but is happy to coast at 80%.

We could speculate as to why that was and perhaps blame a manager or two. The fact was when in a Southend shirt he was always just a yard away...... Cav Miley without the tackle.

Again not someone I would go for in a relegation battle, as others have pointed out, But I suspect he may start well, especially if Gillingham fund a lot more incomer's on loan or otherwise around him. His strengths didnt seem to be tackling, but he did well for us at times in attack and lets not forget we had a desperate tendency to play him practically everywhere except goalkeeper

Tim had an rough day, he and some of his Gills colleagues had a bit of a shock yesterday, sounds like Bonne was driving. Occupants listed below all apparently ok,
they play Col U today!

Former Colchester player Macauley Bonne, former Southend player Timothee Dieng, Tom Lapslie’s brother George, and former Garner and Wales international Jonny Williams

As I said we played Gillingham yesterday, most of the players in the car turned out so obviously got away with anything very serious, but their fans were saying the Police say the accident was due to a malfunction in the car itself, no doubt we will find out eventually!

Maybe there was a malfunction. But malfunctions are worse with dangerous drivers
