BLUES boss Phil Brown hopes Jack Payne is close to committing his future to the club.
Brown revealed last week how contract talks with the attacking midfielder had stalled.

But the Shrimpers boss will be meeting with Payne’s agent again today and is keen to get the situation sorted.

“I’m meeting with Jack’s agent today and hopefully we can get everything done in the next few days,” said Brown.
Payne, 21, came through the youth system at Roots Hall and has made 70 appearances for the first team, scoring 11 goals.

An agent at that age ? Years ago an apprentice used to be grateful he had broken into the first team in the first few years.

Nowadays you pretty much have to have an agent. Im pretty sure nearly the whole u21 squad are registered to Mac1sports agency.

Good news (although not for all on here!). Hopefully Jack will be signed up for couple of years over coming days.
