I had the upmost pleasure of being at St. John's church near the royals shopping centre car park, for what i will say, was one of the best things done..

since the government refuse to aknowledge VJ and VE day, there was a parade and service for the commemeration of it..

brought a tear to the eye talking to these heroes there. People who gave their life in service to this country, and people who had lost limbs and eyes fighting for what was right..

would just like to say, these people are real f%&king heroes.. all of them

To be fair I think you are wrong about not acknowledging VE or VJ days specifically, what about Remembrance Sunday, with is to commemarate all the dead in all wars since 1914/18.

However you are spot on about the point of real heroes. I attended the 60th anniversary services of D Day (an uncle of mine was killed at Caen on 10/7/44) and it really does bring tears. I don't mind admitting I shed a few.

My feelings have changed over this matter a few times.

When younger i used to feel hugely patriotic about 'our boys' and their sacrifice, then later on felt that commemmoration was a manipulative tool to glorify war and allow governments to go to war in the future.

Ultimately rememberance is relevant and neccessary and those left deserve a day of thanks by us all, i wonder if it will even exist in 15 years when the veterans are all gone.

The power of Wilfrid Owen and Siegfreid Sassoons words will keep the old soldiers very real i hope as they are incredibly powerfull and moving after all this time.
