Question Top 10 most famous athletes in the world

amsemp

Director⭐🦐
This fella on Twitter has generated a lot of discussion over his top 10 most famous athletes in the world list. He’s American (in case you didn’t realise from his list!).

Interested to know others take on what the list should be. It’s so hard to measure. People have pointed to Instagram followers where Cristiano Ronaldo has 20 times the amount of followers as Tom Brady. Indian cricketer Virat Kohli is also up there but I would argue isn’t as globally recognisable.

I think I would define famous as who would be able to identify them if you were to show them a picture. I reckon you could pick 10 countries in the world at random and show someone a picture of Ronaldo or Messi and they would be immediately identified most of the time. Tom Brady or Steph Curry? Absolutely not.

Always likely to be so many different opinions on this but his choices are so clearly from an American. Personally I feel the title is misleading as more sports stars than athletes. Either way so I can not understand how Usain Bolt is not only on the list but very close to the top of it.

Agree on Bolt, but this was a list for current athletes/sports stars and he’s now retired.

Lewis Hamilton?

He is not a sportsman. Nothing to do with his current hypocrisy, just never felt driving a car is a sport.....Even a fast car. Basically if your relying on wheels or 4 legs it a past time not a sport.

Like wise darts and snooker are just parlour games, not sports.

The first question would be do they have to be currently active within their sport? Because other than Floyd I assume all of those are not retired. Floyd dips in and out when he runs out of money.
