Shrimp in a Kilt

Great blurb from e-bay. Like the "Infamous" quote, but was this really voted best ever shirt from lower divisions? Magnificent? The more I read it the more I think he's 'avin a laff!

*ULTRA RARE* SOUTHEND UNITED HOME FOOTBALL SHIRT + 1997/1998 + RELEGATION SEASON
COLLECTORS ITEM

This ultra-rare Southend ‘Shrimpers’ shirt is from the 1997/98 season, a season which was one of the most abysmal in their recent history. They were relegated from the Nationwide Division 2 totalling just 43 points from a possible 132. Their top scorer was Joene Beore with just 14 goals. The manager Alvin Martin not only led his team through a very poor league season, but they didn’t do any better in the cup competitions, reaching just round 2 in the FA and League Cups, and only round 1 in the Auto-Windscreen Shield.

Manager Alvin Martin was sacked in March ’99, having only a 38% success rate for all games, and nearly relegating them into the conference, missing relegation by 6 points.

Players who graced this magnificently designed shirt included Julian Hails and Joene Beore, both striving to keep their club in the same Division.

The blazing yellow design on the blue background of this shirt make it truly striking, and uses the infamous colours of Southend to its full potential. This shirt was rated the best ever shirt from the lower Divisions in the 90’s, which, combined with its rarity, there is no wonder why it is one one of the most sourt-after shirts of football shirt collectors. Not only does it look good, but it is great to wear. Southend fans, and football shirt fans who love great-looking shirts will relish the opportunity to get their hands on this shirt, not only for its appearance, but for its track-record, history behind it, and its rarity.

Shirt is made by OLYMPIC and sponsored by TELEWEST COMMUNICATIONS

Make: Olympic
Sponsor: Telewest communications
Year: 1997/1998
League: Nationwide Division 2
Position: 24th (Relegated)

What utter crap! You can buy that shirt for about a tenner these days and they have regularly appeared on e-bay. IIRC it was voted the WORST ever shirt, not the best.

'Fraid you're right - can't blame the guy for trying to promote his item though! And love it or loathe it, that shirt is forever a part of Southend's history now!

Funny thing is ... I have three of them! Don't ask ...

You mean you've had to sew three together? You must be enjoying the good life. Never mind, getting chased by a bull must be good for the old waistline!
