Every year seems to be the same. An agonising wait for the merest crumb of information about a Blues transfer. I know players, managers and agents are sunning themselves in Costa del Bognor but that did not stop Jupp or Benno from fixing themselves up with a club double quick. In fact all the players we obviously do not want appear to not be on holiday. The transfer merry-go-round has been twirling ever since the season finished. Nine targets and defying the law of averages, none could have been completed early. We have been told of one target goalkeeper and in the same breath one that rejected us. The pain, the pain, please stop this infernal pain!!!

It's all part of being a Southend fan, as you say

It's the expectancy that's the worst!

It's because of the internet and how people use it to ease boredom at work. The possibility that there may be a signing creates a sense of anticipation that remains throughout the day. It is not merely the fact that we haven't signed anyone that makes you feel bad, rather it is your disappointment that this media-generated sense of anticipation has not been met. It's like when you get frustrated waiting for an important letter to arrive.

In reality, it is only the last five or so years that people have demanded these regular updates. In the past people just used to read the back page of the Echo in the newsagent to see if we'd signed anyone.

We all go throught the same every year on here as well:

1) Who are we going to sign, X, Y, Z and P?
2) No, they have all signed somewhere else!
3) We are not going to sign anyone!
4) Dont panic
5) We are doomed
6) It will be ok, Tilly will sign good players

1 year later

7) We are the Champions, what was all the fuss about

Keep the faith everyone

Its better than the old days, when we worried about when will Taylor, Garner, Guthrie, Morris, Stan, Chrisy P etc etc be sold.
Cashing in on the assets hopefully is a thing of the past and you never know we may start grabbing other teams assets (and I mean better teams than Grays....)
