What is the greater Southend legend?

Ok I'll kick off
Joe was my proposal.
His record has been stated before
He was a speedy right winger in the late 40s early 50s who scored over 50 goals in over 200 appearances in two spells at the Blues.
He was transferred to Newcastle for a couple of seasons (for £12000 he told me - big money in the early 50s) but never really settled and came back to play again for us.
When he finally retired he beacame sports teacher at Eton House where he taught hundreds of kids how to play football better (and properly) and produced several outstanding local junior football players including Martin Dorey,Ron Smith,Roger Greenaway (RIP) and Nigel Bowie to name just a few.
Above everything else (and although I'm obviously biased I'm not over-egging it) he was one of the most decent straightforward and honest men I have ever known.
At his funeral a couple of years ago there was a team load of old Blues players in attendance from long ago up to a much later vintage - testament to a true and loyal Blue who was admired and respected by all that met him and played football with or for him.

It's Joe for me.

Trevor Roberts for me, a true legend, a gentleman player but it is difficult to compare these two.
