As I was cooking my Heinz beans today, waiting for the toast to pop and taking the lid off of my HP sauce, I was thinking- this is a true English breakfast.

So what other dishes do you think typify English cuisine?

Heinz baked beans from US
Tea from Sri Lanka
Curry from India/Thailand
The potato from the Americas
Chinese take-away

What about some desserts? Apple crumble or jam roly poly and custard, treacle pud, trifle, there must be loads. No points for the person who adds on the most obvious one here though!

Chicken Tikka Massala :D

Is a British dish, invented by the owner of the Indian in Shoebury, whose name I can't remember!

Crimbo dinner of turkey with all the trimmings
Liver & Bacon
Steak & Kidney Pudding
Spotted Dick

I haven't eaten yet & I feel worse for writing that!! :(

Which of course was created in England, although where it originates from is up for debate, some say a curry house in Birmingham, whilst others say The Polash in Shoebury, when the owner added a can of Campbells tomato soup to one of the more traditional sauces.

For me traditional English cuisine is

Bacon
Eggs
Black pudding
Mushrooms
Fried tomato
Fried bread
+ mug of tea.

all from a greasy spoon.

Now there is a shocker :p that is like saying a cup of tea in India is different from a cuppa in England or even China.

:p Go to Jahwallas in Green Street and try some traditional South Indian cuisine.... Lovely stuff but nothing like you'd have on a friday night!
