Now that this election has seen live debating like the US, Personality is now EVERYTHING. Just look at the swing Lib Dems got just from a well connected TV debate. In the US the man with the best personality and charisma usually becomes president in my view.

Forget travelling round the country get on TV and roar home with 3 live TV debates and thats all you might need!

Yes it is becoming more like America (like everything in the country). We live in a shallow, gullible, celebrity-obsessed country so it's not surprising. I think these TV debates are good because they get more people interested in the election and make it more accessible but people shouldn't base their vote on 90 minutes of television. People are saying that Clegg is different and 'down to earth' - no he's not, he went to private school and Cambridge University. The Lib Dems were caught up in the expenses scandal just like all the other parties. Policies, not personality.

Actually they found more people went a read the polices on the parties websites after the first debate (Daily Show Election specials ) . So in a way it is encouraging them to notice the difference between the parties.

For staunch supporters in the media (papers specific ) they must now split themselves between 2 oppoents not one and their influence is reduced, which for their backers is worrying.
