Since the news of Ilkeston's demise appeared on the site and we all need to keep an eye on what happens when the HMRC judgment finally goes against a football club....... here's a quick update.
The club were taken over by a locally based sports education company (SR Education who also do something at Orient) running NVQs etc and they now hold the lease on the ground from Erewash Borough, which they will also use as a company base. The club has been renamed Ilkeston FC and they are waiting to see what league they will start in next year - could be Evostik first or might be the northern counties east which is one below the Evostik. The even more positive message is that the previous management of Kevin Wilson and Darren Caskey (born in Basildon!) hung around with apparently amazing loyalty (don't know about money), arranging friendlies for the academy team and have now both signed long term contracts with the new club - the academy has been readmitted into the league they were in and will make up back fixtures. This looks at the moment like a genuinely positive renewal - if the worst does happen to us. I hope we can come out of it feeling something similar.
