It’s been really disappointing to see the news coming out of the club over the last week or so, capped off by the social media posts yesterday from PG, Richard Jobson, and Matt Slater who confirmed the embargo.

In particular, it is a shame to see the development plans scaled back, as we believe that this will jeopardise the sustainability of the club once the housing has been built and sold. We appreciate the necessity of the residential development as part of this project, but not to the detriment of the club.

“The club will have revenue streams that its competitors can only dream of and making it well placed to compete, and maintain a position, in the upper echelons of the Football League [Ron Martin, January 2019]” - from the clubs perspective, this should be the primary reason why the development should go ahead.

There is little benefit to be derived for Southend United from a sale of residential properties: instead, we believe that the club needs to benefit from ongoing revenue streams such as conferences, events, franchised F&B / hotel, retail and so on, together with embracing new opportunities such as e-sports.

To achieve these ambitious plans, and build a stadium fit for the future of the City, this vision needs to be baked into the development at the start rather than hoping that it can be retro-fitted in the future.

We’ve been working away behind the scenes meeting with and speaking to key supporter groups and individuals, our funding is in place, and remain ready to speak to Ron Martin with the intention of acquiring the club and the surrounding development.

100% this. The stadium plans have been cut to the bone and we have no idea whatsoever how we will benefit from it at all, let alone whether we will continue paying RM for the privilege of having it. Houses, houses and houses are all that matter to RM and we are being sacrificed along the way.

It's on us fans to up the pressure from our end. Today's post-match protest being a good start. We must get Ron to come to the table and strike a deal that suits us all, for the sake of SUFC and everyone involved.

Have I missed something! Have the plans been scaled back even further?

Thanks...... Now I understand who Carl is, I've heard the name but missed all these posts.

Has anyone got pictures/info of the new scaled back design? Surely it can't be scaled back any further than it is.

Jesus Christ, I've missed this thread as well. WTF no hotel :(

Sounds like you’re where you were two months ago Carl. Shame. Perhaps it would be better for you to approach the club directly rather than just talk on social media, if you really are serious and really do have the money. What are you waiting for?

Thanks for the feedback - we've approached Tom via an intermediary, directly approached Ron a couple of times, approached the board separately, and spoken to key stakeholders both in and out of the club to get this moved forwards.

What else would you suggest to demonstrate we are serious?

Perhaps getting off here and actually making headway with one of those many conversations?

Talking to yourself is a sign of insanity.

We can only move this forwards once we have a meeting with Ron. And for clarity, all other discussions have resulted in ongoing conversations.

Don’t rise to it Carl. Carry on in the background. It must be difficult trying to negotiate with RM

Getting clarity is generally all but impossible with people talking in riddles (Ron being an expert). However, you say club AND surrounding developments?
If surrounding developments means stadium, attached housing (ie to the stadium itself)/hotel if reinstated, training ground then that’s one thing. And maybe that can have legs.
If you are talking about the entire development (all FF and RH) then the Dellals, SBC and other “contracted parties” all come in to place making it far less likely, and meaning it’s probably not even in Ron’s gift?

If i remember the original Q&A with Carl - it's the latter, all the development

I'm not massively fussed about going from 21k to 17k and now 16200 capacity.

More than enough for the club. If we ever need more (unlikely) we can increase a few thousand.

More concerned that the revenue streams previously quoted will no longer happen.

A new stadium is great if the club makes money beyond matchdays, but not so great if there aren't any and we end up paying rent every year.
