Well there have been a few on this site that have wanted Ron Martin to 'break the bank' to get players like Eastwood, but what a lesson we can learn from Hornchurch. I admired what they were doing there and at times had envy of their go-ahead style and the momentum. But at what cost? Southend has the best team in years and it has been patiently and cleverly put together. Slower than most would have liked, but at a sustainable pace. I would have accepted more seasons in this division rather than extinction. For the first time I eat humble pie and take my hat off to 'Uncle Ron' et al. Long live The Blues!

I think that Ron Martin was guilty of setting deadlines that could never be met - especially with the nimby's in Southend council. However, he has backed the management team everytime they have wanted a new player. Long may this continue.

But what has happened to Hornchurch, I know some of their players wage cheques had bounced, have they gone into receivership did they forfill their fixture on Saturday ?.

They had to play their under-19's, came away with a 1-0 win over Arlesey IIRC.
Thanks for the info....so I take it their first team are of to pastures new...

From what I've read on various sites and heard on BBC Essex news, all 24 full-time players were released.

Given the league position they're in, I'd expect most of them to find clubs around that level.

I'm presuming the U-19s will be playing the first team matches for the foreseeable future.
