Was rather stunned to read this morning that Swindon's wage budget for this season was £4million and was even more surprised to read somewhere Northampton's was £2.5m.

I believe ours was in the region of £1.3million for this season, find it hard to believe the Cobblers can sustain that. Do they have a rich owner?

You'll be even more stunned, or perhaps not, to read that Di Canio is supposed to have found that rather miserly...

So basically Swindon's wage bill next year will be less than Northampton's this? £1,200,000 more than we spent this year, that's huge!

To be fair that doesn't really surprise me. Their chairman has said for the past 2-3 years that he has poured a lot of money into the club and seen nothing. This season has been a different story mind you.

On a side not, my mates uncle owns Northampton (or part owns, one or the other).

Which is why I'd argue he's not proven to be a good manager. He's good when the team he's with is punching below its weight. We don't know if he's any good when the club he's at is in the right league for its size. Which is why it'll be interesting to see how he does at Sunderland.

Assuming it's true I think that proves how good a job PS was doing until injuries kicked in. He didn't have the budget to replace like with like.

Just shows you that at our level even throwing money at wages doesn't guarantee success. After that investment to only make the play-offs must be a disapointment.

Won't know for sure 'til the accounts come out, late as usual.

Where was this from?

That will only give last seasons wages (to July 2012) if we want to know what this seasons wage bill is we will have to wait until the end of the financial year and then ask Mr Kavanagh nicely (or wait until June 2014 , assuming the accounts will be about 6 weeks late...)

Wouldn't be surprised to see our budget drop below £1m this year.

I'd be surprised if it were if I'm honest. If the wage bill is £1.3m, that would be a 24% reduction and with our suspected highest earners being contracted until 2014 (Harris, Eastwood and Smith I would have thought), it would be hard to do that.

Got 8 or so players out of contract though and I can see us introducing one or two youth players along with a few loanees. Reckon that we'll probably be above £1m but wouldn't be surprised to see us below it.

I reckon it will be above it still and we've got to bring in replacements and those that left wouldn't be on too much wage wise, but then again you never know!

Hopefully with the youth players coming through and will prove themselves, we don't need to make too many additions.

He has invested a huge amount of Money over the last 7 years . It may be correct, he has hung in there waiting for the useless Borough Council to agree to his investment in a Hotel, Casino, shopping centre, I think he now has part permission.
Been very tough for him as the council was only really interested in supporting Northampton Rugby. I think without him the Cobblers would be where Rushden and Diamonds are now, They have just won promotion to the UCL .David Cordoza said he was in it for the long term and he has certainly done that.
