We are now favourites to get promotion and here's why.
The odds for Saturdays games are as follows-

Crawley are 8/11 to win
Torquay are 5/4 to win
Southend 2/7 to win

So according to the bookies we are clear favourites out of the 3 to get a win. They make Crawley our biggest danger.
But- Accrington don't seem to travel too well but their last 3 home games have been draw v Shrewbury win v Hereford and a win V Wimbledon. Also will be playing for the crowd as last game and with no pressure. Add to this Crawley massive wobble Saturday and lack of confidence.

To all those saying we are not favourites , I think we are.

No, sorry.

According to your odds Crawley are odds on to win, which in my books makes them favourites. We'll give it a damn good go though!

I'd rather we were the long shot to be honest, and I'd much rather that either Crawley or Torquay were favourite - takes the pressure off. To have any real hope of the last auto spot we need to win on saturday, but a draw wont be a disaster either, as there is such a dependency on other results. Would rather avoid Creepy in the playoffs if possible.

No matter what, we are on a good run again and we are in good shape for the playoffs, where both Torquay and Crawley have wobbled in the last couple of weeks.

Thing is, as we are Southend, we are almost odds on to make it as difficult for ourselves as we can!!

Unfotunately it's a lot more complicated than that.....

but just to simplify things the odds of being promoted (either by third place or via the play-offs) are as follows

Best prices;

Creepy 1/3
Torquay 5/4
Southend 2/1

Lets look at the facts here:
If both Torquay and Crawley lose then we only need a point due to goal difference. Very unlikely in my view.
If both drop points (ie: draw's or losses) we need to win. More likely but still a long shot.
If either win. Game over (playoffs).

Lets face it, the odds are against us (and the bookies would agree and make us 3rd favourites to be promoted automatically) but we can only hope. Miracles do happen once in a while after all.

Some form stats. In their last three Away matches Crawley have won 1 and drawn 2 scoring three goals and conceding two; Torquay have won 1, drawn 1 and lost 1 also scoring three goals but conceding four. In their last three home matches Southend have won all three and scored nine goals and conceded none, not one, that's no goal scored against them. At all. So Crawley and Torquay should both draw and Southend should win.

If only it was that easy.......

Form goes completely out the window in these situations. Crawley know a win takes them up, Accrington on the other hand have very little to play for. In these situations the side needing a win usually get it, simple as that (and even if they don't there's a chance Torquay might). I'd love to be proved wrong but if as expected we end up in the play-offs let's not be too down about it.....we're on form and will have as good a chance as anybody of winning promotion at *******.

We will go up - whether it's automatically or via play offs.

We have hit form at the right time , and whilst people will rightly say form means nothing in the playoffs, for us it's more than form, we've also got our confidence and swagger again and in this form no one can beat us in this league !

Let's get behind the boys - we are almost there ,1 game more or 4 games more, promotion is actually in our own hands!

UTB's !!

As has been said both Crawley & Torquay have a point more than us and it's likelt that one or both will win their last game, and that IMO will be Crawley. I've a feeling that Hereford will beat Torquay, and we will beat Macclesfield. We can still do it but it is still unlikely, and the odds are against us.

People have said on here that form going into the play offs is important, and if we beat Macc and end up in the play offs then nobody will be in better form than us.

Indeed, just because we are favourites to win our game that doesnt make us favourites to go up. That would only be the case if we were all on equal points.

Going by those odds the bookies are saying Crawley are very likely to win, so that means we dont go up.

Id have to say those odds for Crawley are very short for an away team, think the bookies have got that one wrong. They can certainly get a win there, but its not a certainty by a long shot.

Torquay are showing nerves, Martin Ling admitted this. For Hereford its one of the biggest games in their history.
Crawley will no doubt be fired up after their loss on saturday but equally they will be nervous, knowing if they slip up ourselves and Torquay are ready to pounce. Accrington seem somewhat of a draw specialist recently and will want to send their fans home happy. We are under the least pressure and surely must beat a team who have not won a game in 2012?

I would still rather be in our position then theres though. We are at home and playing well, scoring and not conceding. We have hit form at just the right time and we have very little to lose ourselves on Saturday. If we win adn results go our way then party time, if we dont or results dont go our way we are in the playoffs nothing really changes. The one thing to consider is that teams with momentum do well in the playoffs. The one that just misses out (i.e Crawley or torquay) will possibly find it harder to pick themselves up for the play-offs than us. Up until last week we were only thinking of play-offs so anythin better is simply a bonus. What we must do is get behind the team and give it 100%, there must be no regrets on or off the pitch, do our thing and see what happens.

FINALLY, please, please, please no silly scores going round on saturday. I think back to Grimsby, Swansea in recent years and idiots start putting round false scorelines and the crowd in one area get excited etc. This doesnt help the players unless it is correct. Up the blues and roll on Saturday.

You know damn well that some drunken muppet will think it's funny to do just that.

Happily, so many people have phones with live score services these days that any such nonsense wouldn't spread like wildfire this time around.

It's difficult to argue with Crawley being long odds-on; win away to a team with nothing to play for and they're up. Still, nothing we can do about that; let's just win our game and if we end up in the play-offs at least we hit the ground running.

I wouldn't - you can't ask for any more than having your destiny in your own hands come the last day and I'd swap places and fixtures with Crawley in an instant as we'd not need favours from anyone else.

As for the "fake scores" going round at Grimsby and Swansea IIRC Bury had the ball in the net late on and our fans with radio's etc started celebrating - it was ruled out for offside but it caused confusion in all the commotion with some not realising it straightaway. I don't believe it was idiots circulating false info, just unfortunate. As for Swansea I only really remember a huge cheer when Hartlepool equalised to send us up, that info was correct.

Personally I've already added Crawley & Torquay's live scores to the favourites on my Futbol24 app so no chance of me not knowing what's happening elsewhere at any stage! Come on you Blues!

If you're searching for a crumb of comfort concerning Crawley, i don't think it was necessarily a bad thing that Accrington got thumped 5-1 by Bristol Rovers on Saturday. Their manager apologised to the fans that made the trip....perhaps the team will get a rocket and pressure on them to put in a far better performance in their last match of the season?
