Ironically he's probably done quite a lot for the pro-gay cause, because he's publicly made people call out the ridiculous views of conservative Christians (and the contradictions in the bible).
Still a complete helmet though, and the hurt he must have caused people at funerals is staggering. Theroux's documentaries about them were good but the media latched on to them and turned a small family being dicks into people pretty much everyone knows about and hates - they loved that free publicity.
