The first match of 2022 will (hopefully) see us pitted against a team we've actually faced a couple of times before - both in the FA Cup, 2 wins for us, 8 goals scored (Bill Garner scored 4 and Billy Best 2 in the 7-0 home win in November 1970) and none conceded. I think we'd all settle to keep the run and the average goal difference going, so a 4-0 win it is!

Assuming most of us were not watching Southend play in 1970, Weymouth FC came into our consciousness more recently as the club from which we coaxed Mark Molesley and his entourage about 18 months ago.

It seems a long time ago since our last game at Bromley on Boxing Day, and we've had no updates yet on the COVID situation in the camp but hopefully we'll finally get to kick off 2022 this Saturday. Weymouth have already played this year, losing 3-2 at Eastleigh last weekend leaving them a point and a place behind us in the league table having played one game more. They played over half that game against 10 men and Brandon Goodship scored his 3rd goal in 18 appearances so far this season - all in games the Terras went on to lose (none of his goals for us came in wins either!).

Since our last game we've lost one blade (Zak Brunt), gained one (Harrison Neal) and retained one (Kacper Łopata) - the latter hopefully will be fit again to play - potentially alongside another new defensive acquisition in Ollie Kensdale.

Of the injuries, we don't know yet if any of the trio of injured midfielders (Bridge, Ogogo or Dunne) will be fit enough to be involved on Saturday, but new signing Harrison Neal sounds like he can do a job shielding the defence. Who will plug the creative gap left by Zak Brunt further forward remains to be seen. Maybe more acquisitions will be made before Saturday - who knows?

Anyway, assuming the game goes ahead, who would you choose to start and what do you predict the result to be?

That FA Cup game from 1970 was the last time that Southend United scored a hatfull of goals against a lower league club . The funny thing about that game is I have always remembered the Weymouth center forward that day Trevor Allan , he was a big lump and I thought he could make it in the football league .

Can you get tickets at our ticket office for this or only from Weymouths online?

Hope this goes ahead, ive missed hearing us lose on the radio every week.

So good to get new signings in, time to crawl up the table to safety!

Tough decisions for our Kev. The. Bromley performance felt disappointing to draw, with some excellent football played and further improvements. How far do you disrupt or undermine what felt like a winning team
much depends on those injuries from that match and Lopata coming back
Demi, White Hobbo and Clifford all performed well at the back, I expect Dunne not to make it and Neal to come in

Be surprised if Lopatas knee is ready to kick off from the start. Gard should keep his place. Maybe Kensdale won’t start either if the changes decision to a side that performed very well, is based on reward and continuity. Nice choices to have though !

54 mile an hour winds at kick off… that’s some wind … how windy would it have to be to be in doubt

Don't forget that it wasn't Clifford at the back, it was Ralph.

White got that injury so would expect him to be unavailable so possibly a start for Kensdale being the likely replacement.

Dunne got injured so I think Harrison will take his place.

Up top is the tricky one. I can't see Murphy not starting which is really harsh on Dennis. Unless Dennis takes Clifford's place on the left flank or Brunt's place on the right.

A few decisions for Kev in this big game.

White got a knock to the head, so assuming concussion protocols have been followed I'd think he'll be fit to play. Dunne maybe not so much. So based on that logic...

Arnold

JD Kensdale Coulson White Ralph

Neal Gard

Dennis

Dalby Murphy

I am led to believe that our COVID cases after the Bromley game were Ralph, Clifford, and Gard, adding to Ferguson who missed the Bromley game so will be very interesting to see who's recovered. Hopefully, they all have!

windy and wet so should be a great game of football....

Southend 3-1

Massive game for us we can end up 4 points, 2 positions, and a game in hand away from the drop zone at full time

Im going for a win and the new guys to shine and slowly slowly pull away from the bottom 3 this month ... Dover's goose is cooked so it does make blues season a little easier with just 2 teams to beat... 100% we will do this ....up the blues!

any one frequent weymouth that can recommend best chippy?
In Town you have the Marlboro by the harbour bridge (town side) and on the other side (church side) you have Bennetts. Both overpriced as its on the sea front but not too bad for fish and chips, although stop off in Asda or somewhere before hand to buy your own ketchup as the small sachets are 50p and you need at least 4 to cover your chips.

Closest one to the ground is Alfs Fish bar at the top Radipole Lane (out of the ground entrance, across the roundabout, and up the hill)

Alternatively there is a now a Burger King if you head out of the ground and turn right an head along the back of the industrial area.
