I do, I'm an ex British Soldier. British Soldiers and EQUIPMENT isn't about guns, if they were deployed (and I doubt it very much) they wouldn't carry Rifles. People watch too many films, they'd probably carry CS gas, batons, tazer's and body armour, just like the police do. The Army is deployed in so many roles, so why not. It would be a shame for the town, but if they're protecting people, I don't see a probem with it.
The RMP RSM at Colchester used to be a 6'4" brickhouse geordie called Eddie Glister, now him and a few of his redcaps would stop lots of messing about. He didn't tell people twice.

It's troops on the ground. The thought of it in some peoples heads is NI, it wouldn't be nothing like that. It's hearts and minds as we like to call it in the military. They'd be grabbing an ice cream (as we all would do) and encouraged too by the OC. It's all about being a deterrent.

yes I know all that thanks - I don't imagine a machine gun nest being positioned on top of the casino or indeed British troops patrolling the streets - my point is what's required is a proper financed police force who are able to 'police'

I think all the police are down in Cornwall protecting the posh knobs politicians & Royalty- 4,500 law enforcement as quoted in the local media, probably both armed forces & constabulary, not to mention all the Ospreys- still, that’s a lot of resources!

I really wouldn't want to comment on that, though I'm sure a lot of police are in the area as well as British troops who are set up in OP's and probably have been for days without anyone knowing.

Woodley hasn't a clue. When the army was based at Shoebury Barracks, there was a war between locals and squaddies in the 70s. Culminating in lots of bad fights in Shoebury and Southend(mainly outside The Sutton Arms). I think a massive mob of p**sed up youths are more likely to fight and throw rocks and things at the soldiers, than do what they are told.

I think that was The Duke of Edinburgh Royal Regiment - the last Regiment to occupy Horseshoe Barracks

Maskless idiots in Tesco Express earlier.

5 blokes, old enough to know better giving it the large one in Tesco, buying beers and not wearing masks.

I have had both jabs, but always wear a mask in shops out of respect for others (especially older people), and cos it’s the law still.

Just p!sses me off.
Which store? As I've said elsewhere, my son is still waiting for his jab - these store workers have worked throughout and it's deeply inconsiderate towards them, many of them are in that younger age bracket.

It was the London Road store in Leigh, near the top of Thames Drive.

I applauded them as the walked past me in the isle. Wife wasn’t happy when I told her, she said I’m going to get into a fight if I’m not careful.

Had a bit of an accident and am sitting in Basildon A&E

What a mess. Half the people look like attention seekers. Thirty percent have been drinking and fighting.

One bloke in handcuffs and an anti bite hood who is occupying the time three police officers.
