What is the current injury situation?

I do believe there have been changes to our fitness coaching. Over the past couple of seasons we have lost Mark Williams and Jamie Douglas, do we know much about how the department is now?

This is the list for the first team on the OS.
First Team Staff
Manager: Chris Powell
Assistant Managers:
Damian Matthew & Kevin Keen
Head of Recruitment: Roger Cross
Goalkeeper Coach:
Lee Harrison
Lead Sport Scientist: Stefano Russo
Performance Analyst: Ben Cirne
Kit Manager: Scott Carson
Crowd Doctor: Dr. O Macaulay

"Performance Analyst: " ... does what, exactly?

He watches back the game through the medium of DVD, then on the Monday morning, the players gather into a small room, where he proceeds to stand there and say “you were ****”, repeatedly.

Nice work if you can get it

That’s quite a simplistic offering....I’d imagine your tongue was firmly in your cheek....

He would also “clip” each players individual contributions to the game, on or off the ball to enable each player to revisit his entire contributions....

He’ll clip examples of “good play” and “bad play” for the staff to demonstrate what worked and what didn’t and why....

He’ll clip opposition good and bad play to show where we could or couldn’t have done better....

He’ll collate all the data from the GPS vest each player wears and demonstrate distances covered by each player, as a total and also whether it was walking, jogging, high intensity running or sprinting.....

It can and he will probably demonstrate how many accelerations and decelerations each player performed....

From this he’ll analyse trends in individual and team performances.....so he’ll know when a player or the team have produced regular, abnormally high or abnormally low figures in certain areas of their performance or even certain areas of the pitch.....

From this analysis he’ll be able to offer an educated “opinion” on why performance was lower or higher than usual and also who may or may not be tired or carrying an injury.....

Just as a basic example....if Michael Kightly offered a regular performance level of 10k total distance, 2k at high intensity with 42 sprints and over a 3 game period that dropped to 7k with 1k high intensity and only 27 sprints he may decide that he is tired lazy or injured....and despite us calling for a 442 and for MK to play...it may be deemed not a good idea to play against Luton with certain other games coming up where 3 points are more realistic.....

Lots we don’t know about, aren’t aware of or don’t even consider possible.....

You would imagine that Ron is asking these questions given the injury list and recent performances.

Taking into account the amount of 'poor performance' home games this season, is all this a worthwhile role?.
Must be getting old, as I can remember when football was so less complicated re statistics wise?.

Every club does this to an extent so the gains tend to cancel each other out, unless a club decides to prioritise this sort of work and invest heavily. Brentford is a good example of where extreme use of this analysis in coaching and scouting has allowed the club to punch far above its level of expenditure. Man City crunch a LOT of data as well.

He is injured with a back injury, bit worried about the lack of updates on his injury situation tho.

Looks as if Hendrie has had an operation of some sort, picture shows his calves strapped up though, didn’t think they were the problem

Not sure where the rumour started but he has definitely had scans.

As someone who has had disc trouble I can tell you that one of the most difficult things is to bend down, unless its very controlled. Goal keeping would be just about the worst thing you could do even after your fit enough to play on pitch.

I could even bowl at cricket. Bat comfortably and run between the wickets but struggled to stop a ball on the floor when fielding. Although some fellow cricket playing Zoners may say that's because I was useless anyway.

So add on the fact that its one of those injuries where putting a sock on can mean a 2 month set back. Means its impossible to say how long will someone be out.
